How to Tie a Tie

Half Windsor

  1. Bring the wide end across the narrow end at the height of the third shirt button.
  2. Wrap it behind and then coming immediately upwards.
  3. Bring the wide end down through the neck hole keeping it on the same side of the narrow end as it was before.
  4. Then cross over the front of the narrow end, and then bring it back up through the neck hole and slide it down through the loop you created.
  5. Pinch to create a dimple in the center and place the tail through the keeper loop at the back.

Half Windsor

  1. Bring the wide end across the narrow end at the height of the third shirt button.

Four in Hand

  1. Start with the narrow end, ending at about the third button.
  2. Place the wide end over the narrow end and wrap it around.
  3. Bring the wide end up through the neck hole.
  4. Now pop the wide end through the loop and pull down to tighten.
  5. Hold the narrow end and pull up on the knot to adjust; pinch to create a dimple at the center.
  6. Place the tail in the keeper loop at the back to hold your look.

The Bow Tie

  1. Start with your right side slightly longer than your left.
  2. Bring the longer side over the shorter side.
  3. Bring the long side up through the neck hole and pull it tight.
  4. Now take the short end and bring it front to make what looks like a little fish.
  5. Bring the long end back over your fish.
  6. Keep one finger in front of your knot and one behind, while feeding the excess through the hole at the back.
  7. Pull on the loops to tighten your bow.
