EARRING STYLES

hoop earrings

Hoop earrings have a circular design and generally come in the form of a hoop of metal that passes through an ear piercing. Hoops earrings can be made of 10-14k gold or sterling silver, are available in a variety of sizes and can be adorned with diamonds or gemstones.

  • Charm Hoop Earrings: Feature embellishments dangling from the base of the hoop that resemble charms on a charm bracelet.
  • Triple or Multi-Hoop Earrings: Can be any combination of 2 or 3 hoops attached to a single wire. Many are embellished with diamond accents or chips, and are available in two-tone or multi-color gold.
  • Inside-Out Hoop Earrings: Designed for diamond-embellished earrings. Diamonds are added to the inside of the hoop so that they’re visible when the wearer is facing forward, offering additional drama and sparkle to traditional diamond hoops.

drop earrings

A drop earring attaches to the earlobe and features a gemstone or ornament that dangles down from a chain, hoop or similar object. The length of these ornaments varies from the very short to the extravagantly long.

chandelier earrings

A form of drop earrings, chandelier earrings resemble the shape of a chandelier light fixture for which the style was named. Popular for both daytime and evening wear, this style usually contains gemstones for added drama and elegance.

crawler earrings

Ear crawlers, or crawler earrings, start at the bottom of your ear and “crawl” up the lobe of your ear. They can make a big statement and add a fresh update to your earring style.

jacket earrings

Jacket earrings have a hole in the center so the post of an existing earring can slip through. They add impact to smaller earrings, especially diamond or gemstone studs.

leverback earrings

Leverback earrings allow you to wear a variety of earring designs comfortably and easily. They provide additional security to the standard post earrings since the lever holds the earring securely in place.

omega back earrings

Omega back earrings have a hinge that is attached to the clip that flips up the back of the earring post. The clip is usually in the shape of a Greek letter Omega. Omega backs provide security and ease of use for the earring and look best with small hoop earrings.

stud earrings

A stud earring features a gemstone or another type of ornament mounted on a narrow post that passes through a piercing in the ear or earlobe and is held in place by a fixture on the other side. Studs are the most popular type of earring and often come in the form of solitaire diamonds.

WHAT EARRING STYLE IS BEST FOR YOUR FACE SHAPE?

oval face shape

Circular, triangular (with the point at the top) and square earrings visually widen this face shape, adding balance to the length. Avoid wearing flat, long drop or dangling styles since they’ll add more length. Instead, opt for three-dimensional shapes and styles to add fullness.

round face shape

Long silhouettes, oversized oval earrings and large shapes that flare out help to balance out this face shape.
Look for flat styles over three-dimensional ones. Also, avoid hoop, circular or short, triangular earrings as they can accentuate the roundness of this face shape.

square face shape

Circular and drop earrings soften the look of a square face. Drop earrings also help to lengthen the face and make it appear softer. Round earrings with button shapes are also flattering.

heart face shape

Dangling earrings with wide buttons add width to the bottom part of the face near the mouth and help soften a pointed chin.
