BIRTHDAY IDEAS FOR 7-8 YEAR OLDS
They grow up so fast! Brithday parties for seven-and-eight-year-olds are all about celebrating with their favorite buddies. Read on to discover themes, game ideas and advice for throwing a celebration they'll never forget.
THE SENSATIONAL SEVENS
Seven-year-olds will want to be super involved in the planning process—even more so than last year. From the guest list and decorations to the food and entertainment, it's your job to help his or her vision come to life.

Theme & decorations
If they need help choosing a theme, then camping or glam-camping (aka glamping) is a great idea for their age group. It's also a great theme for hosting their first (or 10th) sleepover! Whether the party lasts two and a half hours or overnight, you can turn the living room in to a campsite with a tent, teepee or fort made of bed sheets. Decorate with party decor in their favorite colors.

birthday outfits
A camping theme is the perfect opportunity for guests to wear pajamas all day (or night). The birthday girl or boy can wear a crown or pin—they can feel more special this way.

entertaining ideas
Let's pretend! Kids will love to dance around the imaginary campfire, play group games, make up stories and have a sing-a-long. In addition to cake, you can have a station where they can make their own s'mores and other treats.
THE AWESOME EIGHTS
Older kids are totally cool with a party that starts in the early evening. You can invite a handful or so of their closest friends. If your child insists on a larger number, then you may want to explore venues outside of the house.

theme & decorations
If your child loves a little mystery, then he or she will love a secret agent party! Go all out with the theme using decoration. Skip typical decor like party hats and streamers; instead invest in props they can use throughout the party—think magnifying glasses, sunglasses to hide their identity and little mustaches.

birthday outfits
Encourage the attendees to keep it incognito and wear all black. A black top and pants or dress are easy to find in most people's closets. Or guests can wear whatever they want—that goes double for the birthday girl or boy.

entertaining ideas
Organize games that require a little friendly competition—think scavenger hunts, I Spy, puzzles, riddles or memory games. Split them into teams, tell them the rules and let them have at it. Older kids don't need as much supervision, so it can be less stressful for you.
party tips
These are the years your child may request a girls-only or boys-only party. Or he or she may only want to invite a few friends. You can mail the invitations to avoid hurt feelings at school.
