When it comes to picking out the perfect shades, you’ve got to find a pair that fits well. That means looking for smaller frames to fit smaller faces and larger frames for larger faces—not to be confused with oversized designs, though. The key is figuring out the size measurements of the sunglasses as well as your face.

Frame Size

The dimensions of a frame are typically written as three numbers in millimeters:

[Eye Size] – [Bridge Size] – [Temple Size]

• Eye Size: This refers to the horizontal width of the lens from edge to edge.
• Bridge Size: The bridge is the piece that connects the two lenses over your nose. The size is the distance between the lenses.
• Temple Size: The temples, also known as the arms, connect at the front of the frames and go along both sides of your face to rest on and loop around your ears. The measurement from the frame to the top of the arm is the temple size.

Ready to measure your face? Grab a tape measure, make sure you’ve got a large mirror to stand in front of, and follow these easy steps.
1. Cheek to Cheek: Find the high points of your cheekbones just below each eye. Measure the distance between the points.
2. Jaw Line: Find the angular point of your jawbone by your ear and measure around the bottom of your face to the same point on the other side of your face.
3. Top to Bottom: Start at the top of your face, at the center of your hairline, and measure to the bottom of your chin, over the top of your nose.
4. Forehead: Measure across the middle of your forehead from side to side, hairline to hairline.
