Vornado Evaporative Humidifier

Web ID: 16468768My family owns two, and both running strong
My parents got one of these as a wedding gift a long time ago, and it still works! My mom got another one though, and so the old one is a backup but we probably won't need it for that. Looking at other reviews, people were saying the fan is impossible to get to, and, uh, no it isn't, because there's screws on the underside of the fan going around which you can loosen and remove to get to the fan and clean it (yours may not have them but both Evap40s that we have do [20-30 years b/w them], sooooo....). The fans in both have never needed oil which is surprising to me since c frame motors usually need oil so that's a big thing too. The tanks glugging is pretty annoying, but I get used to it. It is a very quiet fan, even on high, which is a comfortable loud (I have fans smaller than the Evap40s and those are way louder). Hopefully this review helps others who are looking into buying one, and yes the wicks can get cleaned (pretty sure it explains it in the instructions). Also, the humidifier fan has a slow spin down, but I'm pretty sure it's the blade- The blade's pitch is very steep for max air output, and the 5303DC I have has ball bearings and the motor takes a long time to stop, but with the blade it stops quickly. It's called air resistance hence why deep pitch blades stop faster than shallow pitch blades. Anyway, thanks Vornado for making a great humidifier which I think will go 5-10 years past the warranty.

Love the Added Moisture - Hate the Inaccurate Humidistat
The humidifier has a great design. It is easy to clean; it is easy to fill. I was able to get my 14% humidity level up to ~40% in no time. I am able to keep enough moisture in the room so that I am no longer shocked by static electricity!! Ability to re-humidify the room is 5 stars. However, the humidistat does not function well. I am contantly moving the humidistat in order to stay within the desired humidity range. I can not set the gauge for any length of time in order to reach AND STAY WITHIN the desired humidity range. Either the humidifier continues without interruption up to 50% (not my desired range; I allowed this to happen only once); or once stopped at a supposed upper range, the humidifier will not reengage, allowing the humidity to descend below 30%. For this reason (inaccuracy of humidistat) I do not use the humidifier unless I am at home and awake! I do not use it at night.

design allows for 4 gal in low profile and high output
I was a little skeptical of the design at first, turns out to be brilliant. it would be nice if the top fastened to the bottom but that would distract from it simplicity and sleekness. being able to fill the tubs directly saves time

Are you fricking KIDDING ME?!?!
Made in USA?? Flipping CHEAP?? Dumps 4gal of water into your place per DAY?? These people are morons for burying this product in the corner of their website. Can it be near? How can you justify not buying it?? Simply from an electrical perspective: a heating element is a short circuit. A toaster. A resistor. It is the objective least efficient use of electrons. A fan has a resonant speed, where power is optimized. Using the technology of wicking sponges this thing does things more efficiently than Tony Stark’s heart.

Long Lasting and Works Great!
At just a week shy of 9 years old, the base cracked and caused water to leak all over the floor. This may have been caused by us moving the unit from the bedroom to the living room because this sucker is heavy if there is any amount of water in it. The fan still works great so I am going to see if I can order a new base. In the meantime, I will order a second unit so I don't have to move it around anymore. I highly recommend this humidifier.

Is doing the job!
Our apartment is 1300 sq ft, with 18' high ceilings. This is keeping the apartment at around 45%, which is good with us. The unit is easy to use, and the reservoirs are easily filled with tap water.

KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) Product That Works Well
I have two of these, one for over twenty years and the other for over ten years. I use them EVERY winter in a NYC pre-war building (dry weather and radiators). They are incredibly easy to use and to maintain. In the driest conditions I go through two tanks of water on each machine in 24 hours (approx. 1,500 square feet, 10 ft. ceilings, humidity approx. 40%), so it's great that the tanks have handles, and big fill openings. I hold them straight under the faucet to fill, then they slip easily back into the frame (no need to take the top off). My ONLY complaint is that the gravity design makes this product too noisy for the bedroom. GLUK, GLUK, GLUK, GLUK wakes me up. The fans, on the other hand are not noisy. As to the wicks, I found a solution so they last longer than two weeks; I add a little bit of water softener to the water (it's actually a product from Venta) each time I change the wicks. Then the wicks last about a month. Also, it's best not to let the wicks dry out, always keep water in the machine. By the way, I never rate anything on-line, but this is a superior product due to its simplicity, ease of use, and longevity.

Great humidifier!
This does exactly what it says it'll do, put 4 gallons of water into the air, consistently. Cat loves it to!
