Try a different model
Not great. Doesn’t blend well, always need to use the paddle. Shuts off often while blending. Would not recommend.

Hi there! If your Vitamix shut down while you were blending, it is likely it temporarily overheated. Sometimes the machine may emit a burning odor and/or stop temporarily because its thermal protector sensed that the machine was close to overheating. If this occurs, we recommend turning the power switch off for up to 45 minutes, allowing the machine to cool down or reset. To avoid overheating your machine in the future, be sure to ramp the machine up to the highest speed within five seconds of turning it on to activate the cooling fan in the motor.

Extremely Dissappointed
I purchased this blender several years ago primarily to blend smoothies. The blender continuously stops during blending. Initially I didn't know what to do when the machine would stop with a jar full of ingredients! I found out that I needed to unplug the machine and wait. It does start up again, usually about 5 minutes resting and cooling. I'm not sure why my ONE does this. I do make a smoothie for one big man using ice, frozen bananas, frozen strawberries, whey protein powder, ice, and some kefir. Of course the ingredients change occasionally and sometimes I add half a Perfect peanut butter bar. The ingredients when blended for a minute or two does rise up nearly to the top of the container. I forgot to add that sometimes I add egg whites.

Hi there! It sounds like it is overheating. To avoid overheating your machine in the future, be sure to ramp the machine up to the highest speed within five seconds of turning it on to activate the cooling fan in the motor. We have also included some general blending tips below for your reference. Check Your Speed When starting the machine, make sure the Variable Speed Dial is turned to 1(or, the ‘Stop’ position). Turn the machine on and turn the Variable Speed Dial from 1 to the highest speed your Vitamix has within five seconds. The Vitamix machine performs best on High speed to pulverize food and process thick mixtures. Check Your Quantity When processing denser ingredients, like cooked potatoes, cooked rice, or cooked beans, this creates a heavier than normal load on the machine. You may want to consider reducing the food quantity placed in the container by half (depending on how much food you started with) as well as adding a bit of liquid. Follow Order of Ingredients Place ingredients into the container in the order listed in your Vitamix recipe. If working with your own recipe, start with a base of liquid (water, juice, milk), followed by softer ingredients (tofu, yogurt), then juicier fruits and vegetables (grapes, cucumbers), firmer fruits and vegetables (apples, carrots), frozen ingredients (frozen berries), and finally ice. If you use protein powders, they should follow the ice. Use the Tamper If ingredients are not freely circulating, the tamper can be used to improve the flow of food. While the machine is running and with the lid firmly in place, insert the tamper through the lid plug opening and begin working it in the four corners of the container. As the food travels around the side of the container, the tamper directs it right into the blades. If there is an air pocket around the blade, the tamper will release the air pocket and create a continuous flow of food through the blades. How About an Honest Review?
What is wrong with some people? NO you shouldn't make hot soup in it. And FYI plenty of the larger models didn't have hot soup presets either. It says so right in the description. NO it doesn't have the 'power" of a full size Vitamix. Why would you expect a 32 oz container on a base for half the price, and half the weight, be the same as the model twice the price? NO, it doesn't have "the full spectrum of speeds" that a full size model has. That's why it's 1.2 hp vs >2hp. You want a PULSE? You use the dial. And the tamper. Oh it's loud? NO it's not going to be as quiet as a machine twice the price. YES it does everything it promises, PERFECTLY.

So much better than a NutriBullet
For years I'd made my morning smoothie with a NutriBullet - that's all I used it for, and a Vitamix seemed like overkill. Also, I don't have much counter space. I worried that the Vitamix would be about the same, but maybe louder. I've been pleasantly surprised! The Vitamix makes a better smoothie, no question. The same smoothie I've had every morning for years is way better, way smoother, easier to blend. Also, the Vitamix is quieter than the NutriBullet! I wish I'd bought it years ago - really a great product.
