Sizing inconsistency

My son lives UA Brawler pants. He wears a size XL youth. I ordered these pants and while the waist is fine they are 2” longer than all his other XL youth pants. The large in the youth pant is the same length as his XL youth pants but the waist is 1/2” less than the XL Youth that he wears so they are a bit snug. I really wish UA would also stop using extra thick tie strings as they are difficult to tie and stay tied. Currently owned Youth XL sizes - 28” inseam and 28” wiast - perfect fit New UA pants we just bought - Youth L - 29” inseam - 27 1/2 “ waist - too snug, right length - Youth XL - 30” inseam - 30” waist - too long - waist okay because of draw string
