Headache-inducing

I bought this very nice-looking set of serving boards as a shower gift. It arrived in a very beat-up cardboard packing box with no manufacturer’s box inside. Just the 3 boards which no doubt slid around during shipping. That was no way to send or transport a gift to a shower which I would not be attending, so I sent it back to Macy’s via UPS. Then the fun really started. After numerous calls to Macy’s during which I requested that my Macy’s charge be credited, I received a gift card in the amount of the item I returned. More calls. By the way, I’m not sure that the agents understood what I was saying, as English clearly wasn’t their first language. Finally, I was assured that my account would be credited and the gift card would be nullified. Then I received a bill for the returned item. Another call. This time I asked to speak to an agent in the US. I was connected to Sheena, who spoke perfect English and explained that my card will in fact be credited. It will take approximately 2 weeks. She was very helpful, but the process was both frustrating and unnecessary. When your customer returns an online purchase, her account should be immediately credited. End of story.
