Jay Shetty, social media superstar and host of the #1 podcast On Purpose, distills the timeless wisdom he learned as a monk into practical steps anyone can take every day to live a less anxious, more meaningful life. When you think like a monk, you'll understand: -How to overcome negativity -How to stop overthinking -Why comparison kills love -How to use your fear -Why you can't find happiness by looking for it -How to learn from everyone you meet -Why you are not your thoughts -How to find your purpose -Why kindness is crucial to success -And much more... Shetty grew up in a family where you could become one of three things-a doctor, a lawyer, or a failure. His family was convinced he had chosen option three: instead of attending his college graduation ceremony, he headed to India to become a monk, to meditate every day for four to eight hours, and devote his life to helping others. After three years, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk's path to share his experience and wisdom with others. Heavily in debt, and with no recognizable skills on his resume, he moved back home in north London with his parents. Shetty reconnected with old school friends-many working for some of the world's largest corporations-who were experiencing tremendous stress, pressure, and unhappiness, and they invited Shetty to coach them on well-being, purpose, and mindfulness.

Must read for these days and times we are in!

5 Stars for Think Like a Monk by @jayshetty. I typically limit the number of non-fiction books I read. I limit my non-fiction books because reading is my time to escape the real world and, spend some time in fictional lives and places. That being said, I flew through Think Like a Monk. 5 stars were earned because there were parts that I spent extra time thinking about, parts that I mulled over. LOTS of underlining and writing in the borders. I cannot say that I was able to truly absorb all that the book has to offer. I think it's one of those books you would get something new from with each read. By no means does this book push any specific teaching, religion, or thought to be more significant or "right," than any other. Perhaps that is why I loved it so. I felt Think Like a Monk was educational, with thought-provoking stories and quotes scattered throughout from religious thought-leaders, holy writings, and well-known authors. It's all offered up in such a way that if you can use it, you should take it. If not, maybe it's meant for a different time in your life, or a different walk. Think Like a Monk will leave you different than you found it. And if not, the fault is your own. I'm thankful I picked it up and look forward to more writings by @jayshetty in the future. I highly recommend this one if you're in the mood for something to help put a few things (or even one thing) in perspective. #thinklikeamonk #breathe #patience #peace #purpose #passion #intent #letgo #ease #stillness #calm #balance #5stars #nonfictionread #bookreview #booknerd #sendmorebooks #booklover #readtolive #jayshetty #bestseller #nowyouknow @oakcitybookreviews

Great self help read

Amazing read! Ever wonder what it’s like to think like a monk? Jay Shetty is a communicable voice of reason in an age where not much makes sense. So many people wandering the earth completely disconnected and full of selfishness with zero purpose. I enjoyed this book immensely and will probably read it a few more times. Jay Shetty reminds me of Osho, with tales of mindfulness and lessons in service. What did I like? I’m familiar with Jay because of his podcasts and Facebook messages that always felt uplifting and positive. Most of us can see that Jay’s calling was not that of a monk but as a speaker and spiritual leader. His stories on Facebook always stirred something in me and this book was no different. From breathing and meditation to finding a purpose and acts of service leading us into the lives of how to think like a monk. I felt the message in the book was quite clear, and enlightening. As always with these books one read is not enough, repetition until we understand and can give as we receive. Would I recommend or buy? I believe Jay is popular enough that his book will be a big seller. I think he is a positive example of what we strive to be and this book reflects that. The world needs all the good service it can take. I will get a paper copy when this book comes out. Five stars for a great book! I received a ARC to read and voluntarily left an opinion.

A Must Read. Though Provoking.

Just received this book recently and I am having hard time putting it down. The author takes us to a journey into our mind, heart and soul sharing his own personal journey. This book incorporates Ancient wisdom with Modern Science facts and Practical and Actionable reflections between chapters for us to really think deeper and reflect with love and compassion. I HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone. It is a must read. Me, my friends and my family are loving the book and are discussing each other’s takeaways. “You don’t have to live like a monk to think like a monk.” ~Think Like a Monk Book.

Letting go, growing, and serving

2020 has been tough for a lot of people around the world. And this book came at the right time for me. Jay's words guide toward creating an intentional life, help with focusing and discerning, plus advice on meditation. I just finished it a few minutes ago and will be rereading it. I don't think it's a book to read and then put on the shelf; I think it's a book to travel with through life. As Jay says: in your own time, at your own pace.

New Favorite Book! Inspirational & Life Changing!

I admit, I'm one of those people who has allowed negativity and fear to rule my life for far to long. Life has knocked me down more times than I want to admit. For the past few years I've been following Jay, but until lately I haven't been in a place where I can take the time to delve into my life. Jay has been able to make deep and profound concepts and make them accessible for everyone to understand and to change your life for the good. This is a book to have by your side always. It's already been highlighted with notes in the margin. It's a hope that this is a book that everyone has in their personal library.
