In this tightly wound, enthralling story reminiscent of Agatha Christie's works, Lo Black lock, a journalist who writes for a travel magazine, has just been given the assignment of a lifetime- a week on a luxury cruise with only a handful of cabins. The sky is clear, the waters calm, and the veneered, select guests jovial as the exclusive cruise ship, the Aurora, begins her voyage in the picturesque North Sea. At first, Lo's stay is nothing but pleasant- the cabins are plush, the dinner parties are sparkling, and the guests are elegant. But as the week wears on, frigid winds whip the deck, gray skies fall, and Lo witnesses what she can only describe as a dark and terrifying nightmare- a woman being thrown overboard. The problem?.

It left me …. Meh

First read of this author Slow-Paced book. Honestly the beginning of the book had me thinking I was going to be hooked. Then as I continued reading I was bored. I pushed through the book because I wanted to know what was the story behind the woman in cabin 10. Sadly I got to the beginning story of the ship and again it was a slow paced read. šŸ¤” as i read I realized I highly dislike our MC Laura (or Lo) because she’s the type of person I’d dislike in really life. I got hooked around the parts where we get newsletters of our mc supposedly wing dead. I was like what šŸ¤” 😵 how, wait what did I miss. Yet again I was just disappointed as the story went on and on. And on. Did I like the book ? Ummmm no and yes. I’m conflicted Will I read another book by the author? Yes, I already have one on the list The Lying Game Would I recommend it? Depends, if someone is trying to dip their toes in a mystery genre possibly.

ehh

It was okay. The start was painfully slow and it took forever for me to finish the book because I kept putting it down after reading a chapter or two. However, once I got past that, the twists and suspense made the read enjoyable

Missing Pages???

The copy sent to me was missing pages 39 to 86 (and double copies of pages 87 to 132). LOTS of missing story. I thought at first the story was repeating itself for some reason? So disappointing.

Opulence, the Elite, and Motive

The best female protagonist thriller I have read in a long time. When I say it was a page turner… I mean that (and that is no easy feat). This is a great book for fans of ā€œGirl on a Train.ā€ It has all the good elements of a suspenseful novel…. An opulent opportunity amongst the elite, wealth, and motive. The only complaint I have is that there was an incredible amount of build-up to find the antagonist. Once it was revealed, the book ended (somewhat abruptly). I wish there had been more conflict at the end. It felt like the author just wanted to end the book. It would have been better if the author elaborated more on the sequence of events that happened on the boat and how. Also, I wish she had tied up the loose strings at the end.

**spoiler alert** I loved this one. Ruth Ware is a brilliant writer. I don’t want to give anything away, but this book will constantly keep you on your toes! Just when you thought you’ve figured it out, there’s another twist, another turn.

Good

The first half I did like giving that a 3, then the second half giving it a 3.5 to be honest. I did like the build up and the mystery. The reveal was interesting as well. The writing style for this was also good and I found myself wanting to read the next chapter. Good mystery thriller and looking forward to reading more from this author.

tangible sense of dread

Very engaging. Leaves you guessing till the end who the bad guy (or girl) is. Definite tangible sense of dread throughout. I liked this novel much better than the other Ruth Ware novel I've read (One by One). That one was good enough to have me buy this one but of the two I thought this one was much more suspenseful and dread-filled.

A clunker

Poor writing skills. All characters are unlikeable. Like women in old movies, main character causes her own trouble due to stupidity. Nothing remotely interesting happens until halfway point - and it is only remotely interesting.
