New York Times and Publishers Weekly bestseller! In New York Times bestselling author Maureen Johnson's second novel in the Truly Devious series, there are more twists and turns than Stevie Bell can imagine. No answer is given freely, and someone will pay for the truth with their life. The Truly Devious case - an unsolved kidnapping and triple murder that rocked Ellingham Academy in 1936 - has consumed Stevie for years. It's the very reason she came to the academy. But then her classmate was murdered, and her parents quickly pull her out of school. For her safety, they say. She must move past this obsession with crime. Stevie's willing to do anything to get back to Ellingham, be back with her friends, and solve the Truly Devious case. Even if it means making a deal with the despicable Senator Edward King. And when Stevie finally returns, she also returns to David- the guy she kissed, and the guy who lied about his identity - Edward King's son. But larger issues are at play.

I love this series

I really love this series. I hope Stevie continues on into her next year solving crimes even if not at the school (I mean, the school has seen too much now). I don't know why but I just love Larry, the way he looks out for her and respects her. I think he's actually my favorite character. The only issue I had with this book is the editing - there are several errors throughout. Spelling errors like Avitan and then even a reference to Frankie where she uses the name Dottie instead. I would expect a final version of a book to not contain errors like that.

Great Book

It's a great continuation to the first book, Truly Devious. There's so many plot twists that had me wanting to read more, so much that I finished the book in a week, and currently reading the third book. I also love how the book switches point of views between present time and in the time where the case occurred. Readers can see how everything connects as the story progresses. I'm in love with the characters and the diversity where somehow, readers can find themselves and relate to them. Overall, a great book, a mystery with a good flair of humor and drama.

Better Than the First Book

I enjoyed this book much more than the first. It still had the same twisty clues and almost emotionless narrative, but it felt different for a couple of reasons. One, I think I’m familiar with the writing style now. I was surprised with the first book and getting to know the characters at the same time so it made things less enjoyable for me. But for this book, I was familiar with the characters, already in the thick of the multiple crimes, and invested in the story in general. Second, the pace was much quicker which made the book more enjoyable. It felt like it took forever for things to happen in the first book. This book jumped into things pretty quick. Stevie was back to solving crime, she was working with others, and new secrets were already being revealed towards the beginning. Overall, it was just a better book in my opinion. I’m really excited for the third book now!

Such a Great Sequel

Why did this take me so long to read? It's SO GOOD! And all of the little nods to My Favorite Murder *chef's kiss* READ IT! READ IT NOW! Well, read Truly Devious first, and THEN immediately read this and the final book, THE HAND ON THE WALL.
