Belly has an unforgettable summer in this stunning start to the Summer I Turned Pretty series from the New York Times bestselling author of To All the Boys I've Loved Before (now a major motion picture!), Jenny Han. Some summers are just destined to be pretty. Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer-they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one wonderful and terrible summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.

Eh

I did actually really enjoy the book, but there seemed to be absolutely no climax, just like a straight line the entire story. Like, what would it have been? The guys wrestling, Susannah having cancer? If so, it could have been presented more dramatic and in a way to add suspense. Don't get me wrong, I believe the book is good, and I would 100% recommend it to anyone who likes romance, but it did not get me craving the sequel as other books did.

Loved this book!

I thoroughly enjoyed “The Summer I Turned Pretty”. After watching the show, I realized I wanted to read the books too. I love how there are feelings and emotions felt by the teenage characters that I have experienced many times as well. For example, when Belly feels left out from her brother and the Fischer brothers, it reminds me of when I was at an awkward age and yearned to be compatible with older people. A message I would give to those like me who want to read this because they watched the show is that the book is quite different from the show in my opinion. On a scale from 1-5, I would give this book a 5. Totally recommend this book to any and all ages and genders, as it can relate to problems that anyone could have.

sooo good!!

this book was amazing!! I finished the whole series in like a week! it really is a page turner, and it features your classic love triangle between Belly and two brothers. the book not only has fantastic romance, but it also goes into grief, and what it looks like to grieve a loved one. all 3 of the Summer I Turned Pretty books had me squealing and kicking my feet, while also having me sob. truly an amazing trilogy 🤩

Best book I have ever read!

From the moment I started reading this book I knew it would be a good one. This book goes through all the emotions of a teenager's life. From the good to the bad times, while reading this you get to experience all of those moments. In this story the main character is Belly/ Isabelle and she has had a crush on a boy named Conrad since the day they met. But soon enough she finds out Conrad’s brother Jeremiah has loved her forever. Belly, Steven (her brother), Jeremiah, and Conrad all stay at a beach house in Cousins Beach every summer. I will always remember from this book how sometimes a teenage life is fun, and how sometimes it is not as fun as it seems. I loved this book and I thought it was super good, and honestly there is nothing I didn't like about it. I loved it so much that I even read the rest of the series, and spoiler alert those are also super remarkable! I really recommend this book, and I think any teenage girl would love it!

Great Read!

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han has to be one of the best books I have ever read. Following Belly and other characters’ perspectives throughout the book was very interesting to me. I enjoyed every page and was drawn in by the dramatic love triangle at every point throughout the book. I felt that this book was so captivating due to the language used and even the narration from Belly and other characters that are around my age. Because this book is more modern, I felt that I could really relate to the characters and how the actions of others would make me feel. The imagery that Jenny Han used to describe the settings and emotions happening almost felt nostalgic because of how well I could picture it in my mind. Like Belly, I grew up going to the same beach house every summer, so I could vividly imagine and picture everything that was happening. I could feel what it’s like to breathe in the salty air by the ocean and absorb the warmth of the sun. Overall, reading this book just gave me a sense of comfort. Also, I loved how every part of the book flowed together. There was not one point where I felt like the story was moving too slow or the plot was boring. I was invested throughout the entire read and I felt like the pace of the book was perfect. As a reader, I paid attention to every detail and clue that a character would give me to show how they were feeling. I really sympathized, especially with Jeramiah and Conrad, as I picked up how they coped and dealt with their mother getting sick again. It shows how different they both are from each other. Jeremiah is an open book and is always in a playful or humorous mood. You can tell how he’s always trying to lighten the mood when he is uncomfortable or others are sad with his jokes. On the other hand, Conrad conceals his feelings and tries to keep everyone in line;almost trying to protect them. I became invested in Conrad’s point of view because of his mysterious and almost hidden personality. He carried the load of his family problems plus making sure everyone was having a good summer. This shows his maturity to put others first and keep everyone in line. Knowing how much Conrad was dealing with, I enjoyed seeing him lighten up and have a good time with Belly when he was taking a break with the stuff on his plate. After what the Fisher brothers were going through, I could sense the tension of their feelings for Belly lingering in the air. I couldn’t help but root for Belly and Conrad because romance novels like this always start with close friendships. Not to mention, Jenny Han is known for writing many romantic and dramatic books, but this romance novel in particular was highly amusing because some chapters shared the perspective of characters other than Belly. This helped me foreshadow events and emotions that would reach the surface later on. Also, the book had flashbacks of memories from previous summers, so it was pleasing to gain knowledge and the history of the characters as the story unfolded. Especially when Conrad struggled to show his feelings towards Belly, you could really sympathize with how he was feeling based on the memories he and Belly shared previously. Even through the twists and turns of the plot, the book brought a sense of closure and warmth in the end from the cozy romantic scenes. I felt that the setting and the plot worked together in harmony to make the reader feel at ease. The combo of a perfect summer plus romance is great and especially attracts teenage readers like me. Whether Belly was gaining relationships or friendships, the reader could sense the happiness and overall relate to what was happening in the novel.
