THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLERA Reese Witherspoon x Hello Sunshine Book Club Pick "There is so much to relate to and throughout the novel, there is a sharp feminist edge. Loved this one, and you will too."—New York Times bestselling author Roxane Gay The New York Times bestselling author of The Wedding Date serves up a novel about what happens when a public proposal doesn't turn into a happy ending, thanks to a woman who knows exactly how to make one on her own...When someone asks you to spend your life with him, it shouldn't come as a surprise—or happen in front of 45,000 people. When freelance writer Nikole Paterson goes to a Dodgers game with her actor boyfriend, his man bun, and his bros, the last thing she expects is a scoreboard proposal. Saying no isn't the hard part—they've only been dating for five months, and he can't even spell her name correctly. The hard part is having to face a stadium full of disappointed fans...At the game with his sister, Carlos Ibarra comes to Nik's rescue and rushes her away from a camera crew. He's even there for her when the video goes viral and Nik's social media blows up—in a bad way. Nik knows that in the wilds of LA, a handsome doctor like Carlos can't be looking for anything serious, so she embarks on an epic rebound with him, filled with food, fun, and fantastic sex.

Not for me

I am an avid reader & enjoy a light quick read sometimes when life is busy. This book however was not enjoyable for me. It is not well written & terribly predictable. I don’t like to start a book & not finish so I stuck it out but was basically forcing myself to read it.

Kind of a disappointment...

I had really high expectations for this book since it came so highly reviewed and recommended. But after sitting down to read it, I felt like I was missing something. My biggest issue with the book was that it played right into every romance genre cliche you could imagine. I understand that romance novels aren't meant to shock you with unexpected twists, they're really just intended as a nice feel-good situation, but I'm not even sure it did that for me. I predicted the ending after about one chapter of reading, and that's never a good sign for me. Another major issue I had was the writing of race and gender. I picked up this book mainly because Guillory is a fellow Bay Area resident and I heard amazing things about her ability to write in representation (unlike most romance writers who stick with the typical white, straight, cis characters). However, I found her attempt to include under-represented characters as extremely forced and tone-deaf. I found myself cringing throughout the book at the lighthearted and flippant way race was addressed. I totally understand that it's hard to write characters that are so different from what you know, but that's exactly why authors tend to stick with what they do know. I'm not faulting Guillory at all for this, I think it's a necessary evil of writing representation that doesn't necessarily reflect the author's lived experiences. I think she did a really wonderful job of making the novel lighthearted, easy to read, and accessible to lovers of all genres. I just felt like the story itself was a bit boring, cringe-worthy, and tone deaf, especially during this time in the world.

Pleasant

I was provided an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review. I loved the first book in the series, The Wedding Date, this one I found to be an enjoyable fast read but it got boring in the middle. This book could have been condensed. It was a cute [playful read.

Comical

I really enjoyed this book and the dynamic of Nikole and Carlos’ relationship as it unfolded. There were some parts of the storyline that I wish she expanded on;some parts of the plot felt rushed. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it and love how events from all of her books appear through different POVs

A light-hearted feel good novel!

I have had this book on my bookshelf for what seems like a year and never picked it up. I’m not sure why because I thoroughly enjoyed The Wedding Date and like Jasmine Guillory’s light-hearted rom-com style. It takes a quarantine I guess! This was a right book at the right time scenario for me. I cringed at the proposal and then laughed at the humorous dialog throughout this book. Nikole had a few self esteem issues from a previous boyfriend and isn’t in a hurry to find herself in a relationship again. Carlos, also, doesn’t want anything serious because he feels like his life is pretty full of all of the women in his family that he needs to take care of. Needless to say, it’s when you don’t want it that love strikes. I really liked Jasmine Guillory’s deft touch during the lighthearted moments in this story. I do feel like she let me down slightly when the conflict hit. That could just be that she needs to grow a little bit more into those heavier emotions? I couldn’t quite figure it out, but the end of the book went slightly astray for me. However, even saying that, when I look back on my own feelings while reading the book I had fun, laughed quite a few times, and enjoyed myself. So that’s a win on my scoreboard. If you find yourself needing a more lighthearted book right now, I thought this one was a perfect pick. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Super cute

So I started reading Jasmine Guillory's books completely out of order. I started with the Wedding Party and then the Proposal. It took me about three chapters in to realize that things all tie together. Even still, this book is super cute. Her characters have dimension, you root for the couples and want the best for them, and the books are so good that you can finish them in less than a week.
