Really lovely

This is a beautiful book full of unfussy yet elegant comfort food interspersed with personal stories of family and connection over food. I enjoy the freshness and flavor profiles presented and could see myself making and eating almost every recipe. This would be a good book for someone who already has a fairly expansive spice collection, someone who loves going to their local farmers market and cooking with their seasonal finds, or someone who just really loves vegetables. Lovely book for Mediterranean flavors

I rounded up to 4, but I'd rate this more at a 3.5 stars. The Mediterranean Dish is a lovely offering from a popular blogger. The photos are bright and enticing and made me eager to get in the kitchen to cook. Unfortunately I wasn’t quite able to replicate quite as much brightness in my own kitchen. I tried several dishes including the Mid-Summer Tomato and Peach Panzanella, Eggplant Fatteh with Garlicky Tahini Yogurt Sauce, Easy Homemade Pita Bread, and Saucy Baked Kofta and Potatoes. While all represented well the simplicity and healthiness of Mediterranean style cooking, they also all relied primarily on the quality of the ingredients used. The combining of ingredients for me didn’t really yield finished dishes that felt greater than the sum of their parts. For a newer cook with an interest in Mediterranean flavors, or a fan of Suzy’s blog, I’m sure this book would be enjoyed. For me though, there have been some really magical books released in the category in the past few years (Falastin, Israeli Soul, Flavor, Sababa) that outshine this one by a little too much for me to really fall in love. I received a free copy from Clarkson Potter in exchange for a free an unbiased review.

Fresh and Flavorful Mediterranean recipes

Thank you, Suzy Karadsheh, for writing The Mediterranean Dish! This is a wonderful collection of recipes that if I had to sum up in two words, they would be fresh and flavorful. I liked the book right off the bat, when I looked at the Contents page, and all the recipes were listed. The index is just as helpful when searching by ingredients. The book is organized by small plates and salads, breakfast, meatless mains, seafood, meaty mains, desserts and extras. The recipes are clear, and let you know up front about the amount of time needed for completion, like the falafel recipe that needs a day for the chickpeas to soak. The results are worth it, however. Most of the recipes are much faster to prepare and use ingredients that are easy to find. There are beautiful photos for each recipe, so you get a good idea of what you are looking for when you cook. I’ve received a free copy from Clarkson Potter in exchange for a free and unbiased review. Thanks for sending me such a fun and delicious book!

Deep Dive into the Mediterranean

This book was an interesting and uplifting introduction to a facet of Mediterranean cuisine that I don’t often think of when I think Mediterranean: namely Egyptian fare. The book contains the beautiful photography that the publisher is known for, which is helpful to know what the finished dish should look like. It also provides a very thorough overview of ingredients common to a Mediterranean kitchen. A QR code provides an option to acquire certain recommended ingredients if you can’t find them locally. For me, a lot of the recipes contained more steps than I would pursue unless I was making a special occasion dish, and I am still trying to decide if I like the flavor profiles of a lot of these recipes. Sumac, coriander and cinnamon are seen often, and those are not typical ingredients in my regular repertoire. But I have made the garlic-chickpea soup several times with ingredients I typically keep in my pantry, and have enjoyed how the spices come together brightened by the hit of fresh lemon. I would recommend this book for those who know they have an affection for this type of cuisine, and I thank Clarkson Potter for the gift of this cookbook in exchange for my unbiased review. The book has expanded my repertoire, and would also be a good choice for others wanting to do the same.

Expanding my view of what Mediterranean cuisine is

This book came at the perfect time. I had just been talking to my Dr about more healthful ways of eating that were sustainable and not a fad diet, and this book came in the mail! I hadn't heard of the author's blog when I received this cookbook so everything was new to me. First off, the cover is very eye-catching and I wanted to make the cover dish immediately. The photographs of the dishes are so gorgeous and appetizing. There are so many great recipes in this book, that it has been fun trying as man as I can. The cookbook has introduced me to so many new recipes that I wouldn't have expected are Mediterranean cusine. Incorporating these recipes into a more healthful diet is going to be much easier than I though! I've received a free copy from Clarkson Potter in exchange for a free and unbiased review.

A great way to eat

I follow the author's blog so was familiar with her recipes and was excited to get a copy of this book on my doorstep. When I opened it and paged through it I realized that there was no point in marking all of the recipes I wanted to try because the large majority of them looked so good. Now I only had to figure out what to make first. I tried the Roasted Bell Pepper Boats with Orzo and Basil Vinaigrette. A quick recipe that is far better than the sum of its parts. This book is broken up into the following chapters: Mezze: salads, spreads, small plates and savory nibbles Eggs, breads and breakfasty things Meatless mains, soups and sides From the sea Meaty things After dinner and in between Sauces, pickles, and extras to jazz up the meal There is also a pantry section and some history and background about the author. The photographs are enticing and most of the recipes are full of vegetables so it’s a good book for those trying to eat a more healthful diet and everybody else too. I look forward to cooking my way through this lovely book. I’ve received a free copy from Clarkson Potter in exchange for a free and unbiased review.

Gorgeous photos, family-friendly healthy recipes

Confession: I have a cookbook addiction. I loooove cookbooks. So much so that whenever I get another one, my husband asks whether I'll really cook from it. This is one of those cookbooks where I can't get enough. I've been cooking from The Mediterranean Dish for the last couple of weeks and love this cookbook! It's a beautiful tour through the Mediterranean, with vegetarian, fish, chicken and meat recipes - something for everyone. The recipes are really well written and easy to follow. A couple of days ago I made the "cheater's hawawshi pitas: which are meat-and-herb stuffed pitas and my husband loved them so much he ate some for breakfast. I love the fact the ingredients are fairly easy to get from your local grocery store - no need to hunt around specialty shops. The color photos for each recipe are tantalizing and help inspire a weekday meal. The recipes are all based on the Mediterranean cuisine, so they are all healthy and very family-friendly. Another evening I made the sumac-rubbed drumsticks with marinated onions and the results were fantastic. The sheet pan smoky chicken, chickpeas, and carrots made for a filling dinner and were absolutely perfect for leftovers the next day. I can easily see myself reaching for this cookbook again and again, whether for a quick weeknight meal or for a dinner party. Highly recommend! I was so excited to receive this cookbook.

I had not heard of this author's blog when I received this cookbook. I love Mediterranean food; so, I was excited when the book arrived in the mail. The cover is eye-catching. The photographs of the dishes throughout the book are gorgeous and drool worthy. I couldn't possibly choose some favorite recipes as there are so many healthful, wholesome, easy to prepare recipes. I loved reading about how her food blog came about. I now subscribe to her blog. I find the contents section very helpful in finding the kind of recipe I want to prepare. I like the introductions to each of the recipes. With the number of recipes that I'll be preparing, this cookbook may become my number one go to cookbook. I've received a free copy from Clarkson Potter in exchange for a free and unbiased review.
