When the Music's Over, Read This

To quote Morrison himself, this is a peek inside the mind of "an intelligent, sensitive human, with the soul of a clown." This is a phenomenal collection of the leather-cladded "Lizard King's" most riveting works; an in-depth look into his own perception of human psyche. For anyone interested in learning about Jim Morrison explicitly, or looking into the general mindset of the counterculture youth of the late 1960s and early 1970s, please consider this as a viable read.

Everything in one place

I bought this book and expected it to be comprehensive and complete. Going through it, I was pleasantly surprised that it exceeded my expectations. The poems were laid out in a very nice and flowing format. Even though some poems are repeated, the context of why they are presented again is great and gives the collection a natural flow. The only problem I have seen is that one poem had a line was edited out because of what I assume is one word. I can understand why they would want to do that in today's PC world, but it undermines the poets work. So far, I have only noticed it in one poem. I cannot say it happens throughout the book. Overall, any admirer of Jim Morrison's poetry and writing, will enjoy what this volume offers. I highly recommend it. I would grab the audio version of this too, as it makes available the poetry recording he made reading his own poetry the way it was meant to be read, with the cadence of his reading giving a truer meaning to his words.

this is one creative dude

This is a book for Jim Morrison and Doors fans, of course, but I think for anyone who loves music, the collection of personal writings, poems and photos really tell a big story about Morrison's creative process. A gem of a book.
