Great razor, but there's more to know.

It's a great razor for what it is. First, this is just a rebranded Merkur 23c, which is much cheaper. You can go to just about any search engine and find how much more reasonably priced that razor is to this, which is the exact same razor with a different name on it. This is a very mild and forgiving razor. It's not all that aggressive. It's absolutely perfect for a beginner. It's forgiving of mistakes from poor technique, so naturally it's great for someone starting out. It's also very mild, so it isn't going to go through thick and coarse beard hair on one pass. This is the ideal razor to learn with and it would be good for someone with mild hair.

Razor

I had purchased a safety razor at Art of Shaving at North Park in Dallas 6 years ago. Still in good condition. By far the best razor I've ever purchased.

Save your money

Please do a Google search of the Merkur razor brand as you can find the same razor for significantly cheaper (34C is a good start). Don't waste your time for this.

Simple is Best

I got one several years ago from son. I gave him one when he started college this past fall. He loves it for the same reasons I do: simple, clean shave and costs of blades can’t be beat. Even hall mates asked where he got it!

There's Nothing Like A Safety Razor

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've been shaving for a very long time and had never used a safety razor before and was a little intimidated. When I was a kid, I remember watching my Dad and Grandfather shave with them and they would frequently nick themselves. Nothing like that here, no nicks or razor rash. I normally use a multi-blade pivoting head razor, so it took little practice to get the hang of it and to achieve the desired closeness. After just a few days of shaving I found that I could get just as close a shave. I enjoyed using the Art of Shaving Gillette Safety Razor and continue to shave with it.

First Safety Razor, But Not Last

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Never used one of these before. I love the inexpensive refills for the blades and simplicity of it all. I always hated throwing away the mostly plastic heads of my four or five blade razors. I still like the feel I get from the 4-5 blade razors, but the single blade gets pretty close. I just need to experiment with gels and shaving creams. Also, I plan to make my own handle for this out of wood. I like that it can be customizable. I'd definitely recommend this. Wish it came with a stand or holder. Also, I'd buy these as gifts and customize them.

Definitely different, but worth a try

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a full beard that I do shave from time to time so I tried this and it was a different experience compared to the 5 blades I usually shave with. You have to be quite careful when shaving, but it gave the closest shave I've ever gotten, and minimal razor burns and ingrown hairs. Impressed
