Haunting
Tell Me Lies - Carola Lovering My Review: My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶🌶🌶 Pages: 384 Genre: Psychological Thrillers Tropes: Toxic Romance, Cheating, Eating Disorder I’ve never read a book like this one. I read the book first then watched the first season on Hulu. They definitely left out some of Stephens ghastly deeds and made him more palatable. Plus they changed a few details and circumstances. In my opinion the book as it is written is so very much better. Stephen and Lucy have a very toxic, co-dependent and manipulative relationship. This book details circumstances from their past that influenced their present day behaviors. It deals with the lives of several college students who are all friends, including alcohol, drugs, casual one night stands, cheating and eating disorders. Lucy and Stephens storyline bring the post prevalent. It is told in a dual point of view. His and hers. The ending made me extremely happy! Standing ovation in fact for the ending. I highly recommend you read this book especially if you are thinking you might be in a toxic relationship yourself. #booktok #bookstagram #books #booklover #bookrecommendations #bookstagrammer #bookish #reading #bookworm #readersofinstagram #bookreview #bookaddict #bookshelf #bookcommunity #read #bibliophile #booksofinstagram #bookblogger #romance #fantasy #thriller #toxicrelationship #tellmelies #carolalovering ❓Have you ever been in a toxic relationship ❓

Book Review Compared to Hulu Series
This review includes a comparison between the novel TELL ME LIES by Carola Lovering and the Hulu series. Before going into the details of each, let me say, the book was better than the television series. I generally disagree with people when they say the book is better because I am a visual person. I would (most of the time) watch the book before reading it -- very taboo, I know. I think had I watched the show first however, I would have much preferred the book, because frankly it was ten times better. Lovering’s novel tells the complicated and toxic story of Lucy Albright and Stephen DeMarco’s coming of age college relationship. Lucy, a new freshman attends a California college and is trying to avoid a traumatic event from her past and in doing so, develops unhealthy habits that wreck her mental health. Stephen DeMarco, a junior at the same college, and a guy who loves to sleep with any and all girls that he can (even though he is somewhat in a relationship with another female character) is also avoiding a traumatic event from his past, using sex, drugs, and overachieving to cope. Both characters are richly developed and parallel ideas of trauma and the struggles with mental health are teased out well. Lovering does an excellent job of pointing to blatant and subtle gender roles and stereotypes within a coming of age novel and aspects of mental health. A story about self-discovery, boundaries, and self-love, TELL ME LIES is a brilliant read for anyone in the new adult world or for those reflecting on their own choices in life.

Painful to get through
This book is categorized as a thriller however there’s nothing thrilling about it. It’s extremely repetitive and the main characters are just awful. Maybe if you’re looking for a girl is obsessed with a jerk story but not if you like a thriller with a plot line.

DNF
I couldn't finish this book. It is definitely over hyped.

Awful read, don’t waste your time
I’m not sure why she several time negatively made Asian remarks “cup of gross looking Chinese soup” and “not something an Asian would say”…that being said this book was extremely hard to get through the style, the characters. Not worth the hype.

Great for a specific type of reader
The general storyline (girl loves guy, guy is a douchebag) is one that I love, however I know it isn't for everyone. If you've ever had a Stephen, you'll love this book. The only reason I can't give 5 stars has nothing to do with the writing or the story, it's just because I can't stand a main female character that is a sucky friend.

Split Narrative
I read this in one day and absolutely fell in love with the split narrative style that worked to expose two sides of the same relationship.
