Relics, Sisters, Adventure!

Sisters separated but still deeply connected through time and distance. Ancient Greece and fallen gods; relics with power and mages with spells. One sister is a revered warrior, the other a feeble laborer. The warrior commits murder, and the laborer rises to take on a part of her sentence. This is where the story begins. Adventures amassed in this book, but there tended to be so many locations, many plot lines, many characters; that it became a bit muddled and disengaging. The story hopped between sister’s perspectives and worked very hard to connect them all. Do not wane, they were all brought together in the end; but it did procure a sense of jitteriness at all the characters and plot lines that were fit into this novel. I found myself wanting the book to come to an end due to the bit of fatigue I was experiencing trying to keep up. Nevertheless, I experienced great enjoyment and engagement throughout this book.

Pacing Issues

This was in interesting book with definite ancient Greek/Hellenistic influences. It is the story of two sisters who have been separated for many years and their struggle to reunite their family and save their kingdom from sinister magic. While the threads of Ancient Greek mythology were very interesting, the story lagged and the pacing was very uneven. After about the half-way point I had a hard time feeling urgency and suspense any time a character was in danger or facing death, because it seemed they'd just find a way to literally resurrect themselves. I needed a more cohesive and naturally flowing story.
