Although Emily Dickinson wrote nearly 2,000 poems, only a handful were ever published in her lifetime and those anonymously. Today, she is recognized as one of the most important American poets of the nineteenth century, one whose unconventional use of language and rhyme anticipated the break with tradition of much modern poetry written after it. The Selected Poems of Emily Dickinson collects more than 150 of Dickinsons brief but memorable poems. Bursting with insights about life, love, nature, death and immortality, these poems are among the best loved and most reprinted in English literature. The Selected Poems of Emily Dickinson is one of Barnes & Nobles Collectible Editions classics. Each volume features authoritative texts by the worlds greatest authors in an elegantly designed bonded-leather binding, with distinctive gilt edging.

An Insult.

This book inexplicably pulls all the poems from outdated texts. The flow of her poetry is completely disrupted. Entire stanzas are butchered. Heartbreaking lines have had their words changed entirely. This is not Dickinson; the fact that this is sold as such is an insult to her and an insult to readers. She deserves better. YOU deserve better.

Butchered Poetry and Type-Os

Emily Dickinson uses many dashes in her poetry. So many in fact, they appear in nearly EVERY line. It adds the pauses necessary for reading her poetry as it is meant to be. This book leaves out every single dash, ruining every single poem. This is a book of butchered poetry.

This is not a hardcover

I ordered this book that was sold as a “hardcover bonded leather” and I expected a hardcover book. This is a flexibound edition with a leathery texture. The cover is fancy and the pages are gold-edged. There are no illustrations or fancy text designs etc. in the book. Her poetry isn’t the question but I was disappointed in this edition because I wanted a hardcover book.

Poems are edited

This book uses edited versions of Dickinson's poems. The four publications this book pulls from are dated between 1891 and 1915. Dickinson's poems were known for being unique for her time, and the fact that this book uses edited versions is an insult to the poet. One of my favorite poems is missing the whole last stanza! Would not recommend buying.
