Loved this flowery second chance romance! The characters were adorable, the small town was perfect and honestly I can't ask for more in a romance. I don't think this will land on my list of life changing romances but it will land on my list of small towns I'd love to visit again in another story (which works out since there is another in this series). Highly recommend, I really enjoyed it!

Grumpy x Sunshine is the BEST TROPE
[RECOMMENDATIONS] For anyone new to romance! Scratch that... just for anyone! [SYNOPSIS] Hallie and Julian had a will they won't they moment in their teens... and they didn't. Now they're adults, Hallie has been hired to revamp the gardens of the Vos Estate, and she's wondering if the sparks that were smothered then, will resurface. However, he isn't as sweet as she remembered... and they begin to clash constantly. He is a grouch, aka the grumpy to her sunshine. Julian is on a sabbatical from his professor job, hoping to write a novel, and somehow Hallie is always just... THERE. Looking gorgeously distracting. [REVIEW] I love Tessa Bailey so much! Honestly she just writes like she is having FUN!!! She makes her romance novels full of fun little silly things for us to eat up, and keeps us fed. She isn't afraid to put a fun twist on a classic trope, to get spicy, and just make you laugh out loud. It's hard for you to be in a bad mood when reading a Tessa Bailey book. Their chemistry in this book was off the charts for me, and I love a grumpy sunshine.

Funny
Secretly Yours by Tessa Bailey is a steamy opposites-attract romantic comedy featuring Hallie Welch and Julian Vos. Hallie had a crush on Julian when she was fourteen and they almost kissed in his family’s vineyard. It’s fifteen years later and she still has forgotten him. He’s come home to St. Helena in the Napa Valley of California to write a historical fiction novel. As Hallie gardens outside his window, Julian gets distracted and Hallie gets drunk one night and leaves a secret admirer letter for him to find. Will they get their happily ever after together or is there another future for them? Hallie is the proprietor of Becca’s Blooms and is a premier gardener in the local area. She’s still reeling from her grandmother’s death and has become somewhat untethered. She’s impulsive, late, flighty, clever, immature for her age, and disorganized. Julian keeps to a rigid schedule. He’s organized, exacting, and efficient. However, he is also protective of others and quick to find solutions. This is a funny and light read with several steamy scenes and well-developed characters. Themes include romance, crushes, helping others, family, secrets, community, and much more. My main quibbles are that I wanted more tension and obstacles as well as some of the actions of Tessa were improper and unprofessional. Overall, this is an entertaining and light book, but not very memorable. I purchased a copy of this novel. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. Publication date was February 7, 2023.

A swoonworthy start to a steamy duology!
Bailey’s romantic comedy is told from the perspectives of Hallie Welch, a bubbly gardener, and Julian Vos, an uptight professor. Their starkly different personalities is what made switching between both of their viewpoints such an enjoyable reading experience! Bailey does a fantastic job capturing the humorous ways in which the two butt heads and how they ultimately learn to love each other for their differences. Additionally, Bailey’s alternating points-of-view allows the reader to get to know the inner-workings and struggles of each character, which is an aspect of “Secretly Yours” that I appreciated. As someone who has been diagnosed with anxiety, I especially related to Julian’s characterization and loved the mental health representation. Bailey takes great care in writing the panic attacks that he experiences and detailing why he needs to feel in control over every part of his day to be at peace with himself. Likewise, she does a great job shedding light on how Hallie’s past is directly related to her lack of control and structure in life. I loved watching their relationship develop once they began to open up to each other. Their chemistry leapt off the page and gripped my heart! I hope they make an appearance in “Unfortunately Yours”!

You might want to sit this one out
I'm only giving "Secretly Yours" a rating of 3. I feel bad about that because I'm a Tessa Bailey fan. I would have given in a lower rating if it were not for the diverse, interesting side characters. I never felt the attraction and heat between Hallie and Julian which is unusual for a Tessa Bailey book. The winey setting in Napa Valley was fun and refreshing along with the side characters. It was a slowly developing opposites attract romance, much slower paced than the other Tessa Bailey books I've read. Hallie is a fun, interesting prankster and some of her antics and missteps are entertaining and comical. I never felt the sparks between the characters as I had with her previous other books such as "It Happened One Summer" and "Hook, Line, and Sinker". It was like I was told how I should feel instead of the words and actions between the characters making me feel that way. The differences between Julian and Hallie were brought up so frequently along with Hallie's blonde curly hair that it became repetitive. Sometimes opposites attract but that didn't work for me in this book. You might want to sit this one out and read "It Happened One Summer" and “Hook, Line, and Sinker” if you haven't already.

A Fun Read!
I loved the messiness of the MC and loved, even more, the third part of the love triangle: Napa Valley. This fun and easy romance is great for readers of Ali Hazelwood and Sally Thorne and is best read with a glass of wine in hand.
