great seat other than the cup holders

I got this carseat a few months ago and it has been a great seat other than we took it on vacation and since the cup holders do not securely lock in place they fell off and out of our gate check bag for the carseat so I no longer have them and can't find a place to re-order another set

Nice features but not so impressed

I received this car seat from Stellar Testing Panel to try out and review with my honest opinion just as my 18 month old needed a new seat. I was very excited to see the no rethread harness and double cup holders. I'm not so impressed any more. The car seat is ok and it's great for those with a smaller budget, but it's not my favorite. I replaced a Guide 65 with this. This is significantly taller which can be an issue front to back space when rear facing. Installation was really hard for me using LATCH vs the seatbelt installation method, but my husband got a good install when reclining our minivan seat all the way back during the install (we installed it rear facing). You can't do that in a sedan. The headrest is very wobbly and concerns me with its instability. Within 1 week of use, the straps started twisting. My baby can remove the cup holders himself and the whole thing seems cheap. No premium LATCH connectors either. I don't like my color way, the brown looks more purple than brown. The buckle is easy to use and it's comfortable for my son. We removed the strap cushions for use. It's definitely lightweight if you need that as a perk. My oldest is 18 so I have lots of experience with car seats. My mother in law is a CPST and she concurred with my thoughts as she was here when I received it. It's not a bad seat, I just think it could have been made better.

Affordable slim seat

I was given this all in one car seat to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. The seat was easy and straightforward to install. My son is 4 so I removed the infant insert. He also didn't like the strap covers, they're too thick, so he rides without those as well. The seat is very lightweight and slim. Much slimmer than my previous seat. I often have 3 kids in the back, and though 2 are out of car seats, they still fight over space and have a hard time buckling their belts. This seat solved those problems since it is a lot more slim. My son is constantly taking the cup holders out and throwing them around the car so I do wish they didn't come out so easily, but do like the fact that they are dishwasher safe. I haven't had an opportunity to wash the cover yet so I'm not sure how that holds up. But overall it's a decent, affordable, slim car seat.

Comfy

I received the Safety 1st TriMate All-in-One Convertible Car Seat complimentary for testing purposes through Stellar Product Testing Panel. My first impression was how great of a convenience this particular seat is, with the ability to use starting at birth and all the way up to 12 years of age if needed. The instruction manual is easy to read and explains parts of the seat and use of accessories. I really like that it goes into detail about how to choose which car seat mode is best for your child's stage. This seat has three modes which is rear facing, forward facing and then the high back booster. The manual goes into detail of how to install each mode in your vehicle, what method to install and how to correctly position your child. I love that the cup holders are removable and can be placed in the top rack of the dishwasher for easy cleaning. My child is 4 and is using the booster seat mode. She says this seat is really comfy and I can tell she feels secure with the adjustable head rest. It is so much easier to be rid of the harness and have the ability to strap her in with the shoulder and lap belt while having the confidence that she is safe. Again, I appreciate that the manual takes the time to show diagrams along with explanations of how the child should be correctly positioned in the seat. It is also nice that they have access to replacement parts because things happen! This seats design allows for my other two kids without seats to sit comfortably. I don't feel it is any slimmer. One could install two seats comfortably but definitely not three across. The padding on the top portion of my seat is sort of ill fitting and bunches up at the top. While I prefer black or dark gray the dark brown of the seat material is suitable. There is also light brown on the seat. I would prefer darker because I can foresee this getting really dirty and stained. However, I have yet the need to clean and the color is not a deal breaker. Overall good seat!

Nice seat for some families

I received this car seat through Stellar Product Testing Panel. My favorite things about this car seat are how lightweight and compact it is, making it easy to move from car to car. We'll be using it as a backup seat for grandmas and aunts so its design is ideal. The size is nice, too, it can easily fit into a sedan. My husband likes it better than our other seat because of how slim it is. While all these things are great, we aren't able to use it rear-facing for our toddler. My kid is 2.5 years old and long. I would like to have her riding rear-facing for as long as possible. She's too long for this seat, so we had to turn her around. That's OK with me on occasion but my preference would have her rear-facing, as she is in her current, everyday car seat. For this reason, I wouldn't use this as an everyday seat. Additionally, I found the latch system anchors to be a little basic - big hooks, which do the job, but are hard to open and close. I couldn't tighten the belt as easily as I would have liked either. Installing a car seat is no joke but I definitely worked up a sweat trying to get this thing level and safe. I imagine this will work well for a booster seat and I'm impressed we'll be able to use it for so long. However, I'm pretty rigid about my car seat standards and this one doesn't quite meet my expectations. I gave it three stars because for some families I imagine it could work quite well but, for me, it's not what I'm looking for in an everyday seat. I would recommend this seat to someone who plans to have their kid turned around earlier.

Sleek looking car seat that works, but isn't the best

I was very excited to receive the Safety 1st TriMate™ All-in-One Convertible Car Seat as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. When the seat arrived, one of the first things I noticed was the unique and sleek looking design and color. I've never seen a beige car seat before but it looks very chic! I also noticed right away how lightweight and narrow the car seat is. I'm a small mom and still could very easily lift this car seat. This is nice because I'm often moving around car seats between my family's cars. One of the most attractive parts of this car seats is that it grows with your child. In today's economy, it's a huge bonus if you don't have to constantly spend more money to get new car seats as their needs change. It's versatility to become a rear-facing seat, forward-facing seat, and a high back booster is wonderful, although a backless booster addition would have been even better. Everything on the car seat is fairly easy to install. I can see it being simple enough for grandparents or babysitters who have to figure out things quickly. I always prefer to use the seatbelt to install it, and there were no problems. However, the belt paths got stuck from the very beginning, and it made it challenging to tighten. Definitely not as smooth as some other car seats I've used before. The ultra slim design does have its drawbacks. To keep it slim in its design, the padding is definitely not as cushioned and feels very cheap. Already from the beginning, some of the padding was slipping around and coming undone during the installation process. As much as I love a long-lasting car seat, the material used for the car seat does not seem like it will hold up for the lifetime of the seat. I can see it being easily ripped and stretched out of shape. I would recommend this car seat if you need a lightweight seat where you can put three in the back, and you aren't as concerned about comfort or durable fabric. I think there are better options out there.

Comfy, narrow, cheap. Pretty good for the price.

The Stellar Product Testing Panel gave me this seat to try. I've been using it for my daughter who is 5. She loves the color and feels very cozy in it. She is sensitive and struggles a lot with car seats, so she likes the padding on the straps and the buckle. It looks a bit narrow, like she could grow out of it soon, but she is pleased with it for now. I liked that the seat can be used for rear-facing, forward-facing, or as a booster. However, if you have a short car, you might not have space for rear-facing. I had to cramp my front seat for this seat to be in rear-facing mode. Fortunately, my kids are both forward facing, so it takes minimal space. I might fit another person in the back seat now! The conversion to booster mode seems pretty normal, so I see this working well for many years. Installation was average for most car seats I've used. It was easier to move the latch belt from one path to the other than the other convertible seats I've used. The latch is the clip kind, so it's not as easy to unlatch as the ones with pull tabs to release. Adjusting the shoulder strap height was very easy. You don't have to rethread anything. The recline was more difficult to adjust. I'm used to seats sliding on a track, but this one just has a stand on the bottom that changes angles for the recline. I couldn't figure out the right way to move the seat to change the recline. I eventually pulled the seat out to see the bottom so I could move the part while holding the recline lever. It was awkward and clunky feeling. The leveling is by eye using a line on the seat, which I don't feel as safe with. I was also worried about the tether. It doesn't have a locking mechanism like most other tethers. It loosens easily, so I would check frequently to make sure it is still tight. Overall, it is a good car seat. It is cozy for my kid, looks nice, and saves space. It feels cheaper and less safe than other seats I've used, but it seems good for the price.

Nice, Slimmer Design

We have been using the Safety First TriMate for a little over a week now and my son loves it. He seems comfortable and the extra padding protecting his mid-section, head, and shoulders is appreciated. As a parent with a smaller house and car, I like the car seat's versatility. I won't have to buy a new car seat soon since this one grows with my child. The website states that it can be used for babies from 5 lbs to children up to 100 lbs. It has several positions and when my 4 year old grows out of the current placement of headrest, it raises higher. For the bigger kids, it can be used as a booster seat with a back in which the car's seatbelt would be used. It was fairly easy to install and has a latch safety system, which gives me peace of mind when driving around town. We have two kids in car seats, and though it's not the most comfortable, I can now sit between the two seats in the back if need be. One downfall is that the cup holders are too high to sit my son in the car seat from the door. He has to climb in independently from inside the car from a front angle. Thank you to stellar panel for sending me the car seat.
