Fueled My Teen Story-Loving Heart
No legitimate review, just straight up vibes y'all. THIS is what I envision when I think of Black YA romance reads! I want a sweet, funny, dramatic tale that makes me want to reread it later (even if I have NO time and ALL the unread books in the world LOL). I want Black girls just living their lives, with the 'typical' teen/high school problems, and who get the guy. Autumn's voice is so distinct and hilarious and I loved being in her head. And Mekhi and the rough road from business partners to romance??? Ughhh, there were so many times I wanted to squeak and kick my feet up but couldn't because it was like dark thirty and people were sleeping BUT I COULDN'T STOP SMILING!!!

Joyful, Refreshing Entrepreneurial Read
“Concern from any other person is simply kindness. Concern from a boy you like is sweet, endearing, and something to read into.” After winning a competitive scholarship to the Mercer School of Business, Autumn assumes the contingency on acceptance is only a formality. Mercer is Autumn’s dream school, offering a prestigious entrepreneurship program that will set her up for success. But her future comes to a crashing halt when she is waitlisted; disbelief takes over as it sinks in that she banked everything on Mercer. In addition, a bad breakup leaves her feeling average and unsure of what she can do in the next six weeks to prove herself to Mercer. Her counselor pulls strings for her to join the Young Black Entrepreneurs, and things really get complicated when, despite their intricate romantic past, Mekhi offers to help her turn her skill of crafting enchanting promposals into a business. Can Autumn, voted most likely to brighten someone’s day, build her new business, find love, and regain her confidence when everything seems to be disintegrating around her? Promposal will appeal to readers interested in entrepreneurship and messy almost-enemies to lovers with compelling witty banter. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the story was not predictable. Little details were effectively revealed throughout that kept me engrossed in Autumn’s personal growth. The realistic portrayal of the promposal theme was refreshing compared to other young adult rom-coms that do not consider the delicate emotions surrounding teenage love. Plus, is there anything sweeter than watching two people come together in a special way? Promposal also included some of the finer details regarding starting a company, creating a business plan, and hitting on profitability. Being from southeastern Michigan, the novel setting was dead on, including wearing coats and gloves during class. Every side character had an important role to play in Autumn’s self-growth journey. I also found Autumn’s parents to be refreshing for a young adult novel because they did not smother Autumn or overtly fault her for her mistakes. Promposal captures the joy of the end of senior year and the excitement ahead without overshadowing the accompanying fear and doubt to create a refreshing read about learning to believe in yourself. charming YA contemporary
PROMPOSAL is an engaging YA contemporary about reaching for your dreams, creating new goals, and falling in love. Autumn is having a series of misfortune in that her dream college- the one for which she thought she was a shoo-in and her only application- has waitlisted her. If that were not enough, her boyfriend has decided to break up with her so that he can spend the last few months until graduation with his friends. The one thing that did go right was the promposal she helped set up for a friend. Following that, others are hoping she'll help them too. When Mekhi, her enemy since the events of their freshman year, suggests she charge people for her help, she begins to get an idea that may be just the ticket for getting her off the waitlist. The person best-suited to help her might be Mekhi, but Autumn is anything but happy about it. However, as they spend time working together and talking about romance, Autumn can't help but begin to feel her own - even if it seems like that would be a really bad idea. What I loved: This was a really sweet read about love and reaching for your goals, whether that's your dream school or your prom date hopeful. The story also includes a lot of information about entrepreneurship and the work that goes into making something like that take off the ground - and also the challenges of doing so. Other themes around trust, misunderstandings, family, and friendship were also really strong. Autumn is a compelling character, who knows what she wants and is going for it, moving past mistakes she has made and forging new paths. Her perspective was easy to sink into, and the story moved all the quicker for her observations, emotions, and questions that drive the story forward. Mekhi was also an interesting character. The reader only gets to know him through his interactions with Autumn, but as he opens up, his story becomes more complex with challenges in his family relationships and a unique perspective on business and love. Their chemistry was present throughout, and while they had some hiccups, everything was resolved really well in the end. The pacing was just right here, making it a quick read and easy to keep thinking one more chapter. The ending was just perfect too, with that giggly, happy rom-com resolution feel. Final verdict: PROMPOSAL is a charming YA contemporary about following your dreams and falling in love that is sure to leave readers smiling. Highly recommend for a cute rom-com read with an entrepreneurial spirit! Please note that I received an ARC. All opinions are my own.
