I am only a few chapters into the book but I already don't like it. The author doesn't ease you into the story with an introduction via character development or story background. By page ten, you barely know the character's names and the meat of the plot is already being thrown in your face. I have no feel for the characters or the setting at all. It's like the author just couldn't wait to get into the story and cast aside all the necessary build-up. It feels very rushed and poorly thought out. The author isn't very descriptive in anything she writes either so I don't have a good feel for the setting. She uses very generic words to describe things on the space station; control panel, space helmet, airlock. It reads like a young adult book, and not a good one at that. But in her defense, maybe it is geared more toward young readers because I don't actually know this author at all. But in any case, I was expecting a more refined sci-fi horror and this misses the mark pretty badly. Probably going to return it.

Main character...
Not at all time the main character are people. I love this book because the main character is not any of the characters in the story. In order for you to know go and by the book, because I am not going to tell you. LOL. It should be more books this way.

Main Character...
People think that the main character has to be a person, in this book the main character is the Parasite. The book is about the main character moving from station through station trying to stay alive using the humans a transporters of the virus.

Well told space horror
This is an exciting eerily told story over a series of short stories that flow well as parts of an overall narrative. Suspenseful and exciting throughout, the writing practically pulled me through the book. This may not appeal to the pedantic "hard" sci fi crowd but for people who enjoy an exhilarating and often intense scary story are likely to love this novel.

Fast-paced and thrilling
Parasite, though not incredibly unique in ideas, still tackles a sub-category of horror I’m fond of: space horror. The idea of an unknown entity in a distant galaxy or nearby planet, one with capabilities beyond our comprehension, is still a terrifying concept in my opinion, and I think Coates approaches this well. The entity at the heart of Parasite desires control and eliminating the human race by literally taking over their bodies. The very thought is terrifying, and Coates brings that thought to life. Overall, I’m pleased with the read. The action is well-paced and consistent. My only criticism would be the volume of characters. There are a little too many, and you never truly get to know each character before jumping to a new set. While I understand the purpose behind this, I wanted a little more consistency by sticking with a set number of characters from beginning to end. However, in the little time you get to know the characters, Coates does well to build sympathy quickly, and you do feel their struggle with them. I think Coates is a great writer and would recommend to anyone interested.
