INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER From the #1 New York Times bestselling author known for her superb pacing, twisted characters, and captivating prose (BuzzFeed), Lisa Jewell returns with a scintillating new psychological thriller about a woman who finds herself the subject of her own popular true crime podcast. Celebrating her forty-fifth birthday at her local pub, popular podcaster Alix Summer crosses paths with an unassuming woman called Josie Fair. Josie, it turns out, is also celebrating her forty-fifth birthday. They are, in fact, birthday twins. A few days later, Alix and Josie bump into each other again, this time outside Alix's children's school. Josie has been listening to Alix's podcasts and thinks she might be an interesting subject for her series. She is, she tells Alix, on the cusp of great changes in her life. Josie's life appears to be strange and complicated, and although Alix finds her unsettling, she can't quite resist the temptation to keep making the podcast. Slowly she starts to realize that Josie has been hiding some very dark secrets, and before she knows it, Josie has inveigled her way into Alix's life—and into her home. But, as quickly as she arrived, Josie disappears. Only then does Alix discover that Josie has left a terrible and terrifying legacy in her wake, and that Alix has become the subject of her.

Read it in a day!

I have severe ADHD and I absolutely could not put this book down! Every time I thought I knew what was going on, there was a twist. It is not often I want books to be adapted into a movie/series, but this is most definitely one (wink, you’ll get it if you read it)

so good!

Here’s the review - are you ready? Stop what you’re doing and pick up this book. Thrillers are so hard to review without giving too much away. Everything you need to know is in the title : None of This is True. This one is really good. I was sucked in immediately and it didn’t let up until the very end. Great read!

On one hand, I like it, but on the other, I’m just confused. How it seems we just glossed over the main male character’s accused actions? That part really unsettles me. The book definitely makes you think, and it has some surprising unexpected twists.

Gripping and thought-provoking

TW: Domestic Abuse, SA Lisa Jewell's 'None of This is True' is an electrifying journey through the dark underbelly of the seemingly idyllic lives of Alix Summer and Josie Fair, where secrets lurk around every corner. As the narrative unfolds, we discover that the disappearance of a local woman is just the tip of the iceberg, setting off a chain reaction of deception and betrayal. One of the most intriguing aspects of the novel is the revelation that the seemingly perfect Fair family is hiding a sinister secret—a secret that threatens to tear all of their lives apart. As the lies and deception being to become too much for Josie and the facade begins to crumble, long-buried truths come to the surface, exposing the depths of their dysfunction and the lengths they will go to protect their image. Meanwhile, Josie develops a relationship with popular podcaster Alix Summer after a night at the pub for her forty-fifth birthday. After some consideration, Josie decides that it is time to change her life and asks Alix to document her journey. However, as whispers of a troubled past follow Josie, it becomes harder and harder to hold them back. With each development, the line between friend and foe / truth and lie / innocent and guilty becomes increasingly blurred, leaving readers guessing until the very end. Perhaps the most shocking twist of all is the revelation that the true culprit behind the disappearance is someone no one would suspect—a revelation that turns the entire narrative on its head and leaves readers questioning everything they thought they knew. However, the story does attempt to tackle sensitive subjects like SA and domestic abuse, but falls short in its execution. While the novel delves into the struggles faced by survivors, the portrayal feels, at times, exploitative. The triggering themes are introduced in a mostly sensitive manner, but I feel they overshadow the complexities of the characters and their experiences. Rather than fostering empathy, the narrative relies on shock value, leaving readers feeling unsettled with the descriptive nature of the acts. In the end, 'None of This is True' is a gripping and thought-provoking exploration of the human psyche, filled with unexpected twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page. I feel that this book earned a solid 4.5/5 rating from me, only losing half a star on account of the sensitive topics being discussed in the detail that they were.

Just Like the Title Says

This was an interesting thriller read for me. The writing did keep turning the pages to see what happened next but when I finished there were a lot of loose ends. I did not like any of the characters and since no one does tell the truth you are not sure who to believe and you do not know what really happened. Despite all that it was a good read.

I love the unique storyline!

None of This is True, by Lisa Jewell, gives us a unique approach to an excellent psychological thriller we can sing our teeth into. It breaks away from the stereotypical novel, and gives us a creative storyline that will leave you ruminating long after the final chapter. So many lies. So many versions of the truth. Which one is correct? The audiobook version is great to listen to with multi - character narration. it is in an English dialect. If you are from the US, like me, this takes a little getting used to. Overall, it is an excellent tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. I highly recommend it!
