A clever book that teaches more than just words
This book teaches so much more than it shows! Its concept is so clever on pointing out sentences, along with excellent illustrations that show how sound-alike words could have very different meanings. I had such a fun time reading it and loved that it turned confusion in the English language into laughter. It also teaches idioms, geography, fashion, and the power of imagination.

educational and fun!
This book is fun, with so much wordplay and a fair amount of dorkiness going on! The authors of P Is for Pterodactyl bring readers more fun with the English language, this time focusing on homophones and homonyms, with some punctuation thrown in. The illustrations are quirky, with lots of detail and color, and they really help express the text. An engaging, sneakily educational read.

silly fun with the English language
NO READING ALLOWED is a delightfully charming take on homonyms and sound-alike words. The book features two panels for phrases which sound alike but have different meanings, such as "The new deli clerk runs a pretty sorry store." and "The New Delhi clerk runs a pretty sari store." These fun distinctions and colorfully silly illustrations have definite appeal for elementary-school aged children who like to laugh. A glossary at the end helps to define words which may be new to young readers. What I loved: This is a very clever and very silly book that is sure to make young readers laugh. It may go over the heads of preschoolers and young elementary school aged readers who might not be reading yet, but older picture book readers are sure to enjoy it. The illustrations are fantastic, demonstrating each phrase for the reader with plenty of color and fun details. Some of the favorites in our house included the hiding monsters. This would be a great book for teaching about homonyms and could inspire some fun classroom projects, as children may come up with their own silly depictions of phrases that sound alike but mean something completely different. This book is a great way to start to have some fun with the English language. Final verdict: Silly, delightful, and clever, NO READING ALLOWED is a great way to teach about homonyms and have fun with language. Please note that I received a copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Enjoyable
This book is the BEST book to read aloud to older children to learn the difference between words that have different meanings and spellings, but share the same pronunciation....HOMONYMS!! The illustrations are top notch. LOVING every page. ♥️ This book was given to me by Sourcebooks Early Reads in exchange for an honest review.

Clever and Fun
This clever nonfiction picture book features sentences with homonyms, showing how the same sounds can have completely different meanings. I really liked the first, alphabet-focused book in this series when it released, and I enjoyed this more complex one as well. I especially liked the opposite contrast with "raise" and "raze," and the kooky illustrations are a lot of fun. This is a great book for word nerds, whether they are children or adults. However, children may struggle to interpret some of the more unusual words and complex sentences adjustments. There is a glossary in the back that provides explanation at the end, but a younger child would probably most enjoy this as a read-aloud with an adult who can explain the more obscure words and references as they go. Even though this book is in a picture book format, it is not targeted towards picture book audiences, and is better for elementary school children and up. This book is a lot of fun, and is a wonderful, silly way to teach about homonyms and expand a child's vocabulary. I'm glad that I had the chance to read an advance copy of this, and I hope that there will be future books in this series as well.

The PERFECT gift book
I've been waiting for this since the second I put down "P Is for Pterodactyl". The perfect blend of whimsy and wit. You'll spend as much time on the great illustrations as you will on the text... and then you'll go back for some more. Great to read this with friends but totally a book you can get lost in by yourself. Perfect for all ages but really special for budding readers expanding their vocabulary.
