This is the 4th book in the Atlee Pine series by David Baldacci. Atlee Pine is an FBI agent searching for her twin sister Mercy who was kidnapped at 6-yrs old and never seen again until now. Mercy now goes by the name El (Eloise) and is caught up in an act of revenge after she kills the brother of a wealthy influential man after El sees the girlfriend of the brother abuse her. Atlee and El meet and the sisters must help each other to keep El (Mercy) stay alive. I really loved reading this spine tinging novel.

Action packed
This action packed book kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the story. I was anticipating this book and couldn't wait to read Mercy's story and find out what had happened to her after she escaped. She and Atlee are both tough women who can take care of themselves in most situations. Things took a turn that I didn't expect and the sisters had to work together and trust each other, even though they haven't seen each other in 30 years. This has been a very interesting series, that I would suggest being read in order.

Stunning finale to the search for Mercy!
For three decades, FBI agent Atlee Pine has searched for her twin sister. When they were very young, Mercy was kidnapped and Atlee was badly injured. While Atlee recovered, she and her family's lives were shattered. Later, Atlee was struck another cruel blow when her mother abandoned her as well. Working as a lone resident agent in small FBI post, Atlee had enjoyed the solitude away from the world and the majority of the FBI rules and regulations. But her never ending search for her sister has led both Atlee and her assistant Carol Blum to Georgia and beyond. MERCY is the seemingly culmination of the Atlee Pine series and the search for the truth about Mercy's disappearance. In David Baldacci's previous book in the series, DAYLIGHT, Atlee uncovered shattering truths about her parents and even more shocking, learned that Mercy had been alive for a number of years, held captive by monstrous people before escaping. But that escape was still years back and there is no way to know if Mercy is still alive. As MERCY opens, Atlee and Carol are tracking down people in the case to learn just what part they played in the kidnapping. Without telling them who she is, Atlee learns just what happened to Mercy in captivity. To say she has to hold back from killing those she interviews is an understatement. Mercy's life was worse than any horror movie and Atlee is suitably enraged. But there's still the question of what happened to Mercy after she escaped. Tracking the woman who tortured Mercy to North Carolina, Atlee ends up arresting the woman on charges both old and new. But the madwoman has no real answers for her either. As the story progresses, the narrative splits off between a few different characters. There's a female assassin, a ruthless businessman with a grudge against the FBI and a female cage fighter named El Cain. In order to bring Mercy some measure of justice, Atlee will have to face off against all of them in a battle to a likely death. Complications arise in Atlee's mission when she is hamstrung by the FBI, Carol is taken hostage and she ends up hunted by the businessman's hired goons. The quest for Mercy comes to a head in this book and Baldacci, not unsurprisingly, sticks the landing. I was a bit disappointed at some spoiler developments early on that robbed the book of some measure of suspense but the narrative as the book progressed through it's explosive finale more than made up for that. I will say that while Baldacci is always great guns ablaze when it comes to action sequences, he really nailed a highly charged emotional scene here too. I'm normally a hard-hearted kind of guy, but I have no problem admitting that I felt a welling of emotion at the scene. While I'm not completely sure this is the end of the Atlee Pine series, the MERCY book does bring the search for Mercy Pine to an epic conclusion that will rock readers to their core. This is one heck of a way to bring the story to a close!

Excellent
As disappointing as the third book in this series was, this one was wonderful! What a terrific final book in the series!! It brought together the many elements in the story, was fast moving, made sense - altogether satisfying. It's vintage David Baldacci and I highly recommend it.

Loved!
Wow! This book picks up with Atlee's search for her missing twin sister. The trail is obscured and filled with twists and turns that had me flipping pages just as quickly as possible. I was totally engrossed in the story and stayed up way too late reading. This is a satisfying conclusion to the series and fully resolves the mysteries. I really liked the characters and hope the author finds a way to include them in future novels. Fans of the genre will love this one! While this is part of a series, this is a stand alone novel, however, it's so good that you really owe it to yourself to read them all. The author is on my must read authors' list.
