Maus

Great book. An interesting way to teach students about the Holocaust. It would have been helpful when I worked with students in the classroom.

Tough Read But Worthwhile

I just completed both volumes Maus by Art Spiegelman. This is a book being recently banned in certain areas of the United States. I read this to find out why. It is a true story based on the author’s father’s experiences of the Holocaust. I have been to Dachau in Germany where they have a museum dedicated to the Jewish people who suffered there. I have seen documentaries about the subject. This book appears to be historically accurate in MY opinion. It is a tough read but worthwhile. I have heard there is some concern over nudity. There are 2 pages in the duology where there are naked mice. There is nothing appealing about the depiction to lead to inappropriate thoughts. I am glad I read this, I did not find it enjoyable, but it I thought it was important. I gave it 4 stars for important content.

Make an ebook available, please!

I read this book in the public library a few years ago, and it should be required reading in all comics and art courses. The metaphorical mouse relationship of the author and his father (2 mice) spared no punches, making his father even more lovable and human. I would love to have an ebook on my phone, instead of my hand sanitizer stained fingers.

Too old

There are better Holocaust books. We have learned a lot since the Maus was written. It gets one extra star for trying.
