Sales tax for tax free item

The shoe is comfortable but they charged sales tax on my order that was not supposed to for NYC under $110. I called Macys customer service and was told that I needed to contact the 3rd party seller for the refund for the sale taxes charge, the seller told me the same thing to contact Macys because payment was to Macys. Anyway I am not going to buy from Macys website again if I see the sales tax added on for item is tax free.
