Nice but imperfect

These were ordered for my son. He likes them but the bar across the front has a noticeable imperfection. My son is deciding whether to keep the shoe or not. (It wasn't enough of a bargain to justify "swallowing" the defect.) I would be happy if a Macy's rep could advise. If we return this for a replacement pair - how can we be sure that the problem won't appear on the replacement? (There's also a small red tag on the side that wasnt' shown in the product photos. Less critical, but it makes the shoe look a bit cheap.)
