Wow. This is a read I think all teen girls should get their hands on and dive into. With content that is oh so relevant in today's world of social media with fake facades, it's one that can be a real encouragement to teens (and even adults). The book is broken down into weekly devotionals that end with some questions and also a social media challenge. I'm not entirely sure I'd be confident as a teen posting the challenges, however they also aren't quite as vulnerable as you might think from my saying that. If girls were to take them seriously and share them though, I believe they could truly be used as a light for Christ. Written by an author who is still young herself, she's both relevant and relatable for today's teens and the devotionals she shares are both powerful and thought-provoking. She addresses real-life topics and doesn't sugar coat or shy away from the tough stuff. Every teen girl should read this, and I don't think I can recommend it enough! *I received a copy of this book through JustRead Tours. Thoughts and opinions expressed are mine alone.

A Must-Read for Teen Girls!
Tessa Emily Hall has created a devotional that takes girls on a monumental journey of faith and self-discovery to understand the way that God sees each of them in Love Your Selfie. This journal-devotional has been designed to span the length of a year as girls learn to appreciate the unique way that God created each of them. I love the way that Hall organized this. Each week’s entry starts with a scripture verse and short devotion. Next are several questions for consideration with space in which to answer them. These are thoughtful, deep questions, intended to draw out the response and help the reader go deeper into the issue. There’s a fill-in-the-blank confession section, where girls can consider how the issue of the week relates to them personally. What action take they take spiritually? Next, a short prayer section is begins with prompts and then provides space for the reader to journal her answer and take it deeper. I love writing out prayers, and I love that this journal can really be a shared one between the reader and God. Love Your Selfie Love Your Selfie The last two sections are my favorite, though. This is really where Love Your Selfie shines – or, maybe I should say, this is really where it sparkles. The challenge section is a public action to that the reader can take to show that she isn’t defined by the issue of the week. There are hashtags you can use to connect with other readers, and the challenges are designed to show your own special uniqueness. The last section is especially appropriate for young women. It’s a ‘Love God’s Creation’ section with physical actions to take that will address the issue of the week. For example, since Week One’s devotion talks about wearing a mask and not showing one’s true face, this week’s action step talks about ways to care for one’s complexion. These tips are brief but real and important, and they’re very relevant both to the issue and to young readers. These sections do vary a bit. Many of the entries have a ‘Dear Diary’ section in place of the physical action. Others have mini-quizzes or perspective pieces. All are relevant for pre-teen and teen girls, however, and all are designed to strengthen one’s spiritual journey. Finding quality books for teens is hard. Finding ones that are real and relevant is even harder. Finding a great book that addresses social, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs was impossible – until Hall wrote Love Your Selfie. It’s truly the book that has it all. I received a free copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.

short and relevant devotions
Social media is a part of my teenagers' every day lives. Chapter 1 started off with 'living unfiltered' and a challenge to post an unfiltered selfie to start a discussion. "I don't need to live behind a filter because..." #loveyourselfiechallenge Its hard living in a fear of being judged and like you don't measure up to others. I think kids need to talk about it. I liked the discussion prompt. I love the pretty covers this author has for her devotionals. Coffee Shop Devos is a pale purple and this one is a dark glittery pink. Definitely targeting girls. The weekly devotions are set up with a scripture, short story, journaling area with questions, confession, prayer, and challenge. My daughter likes how it is interactive and doesn't take a lot of time to complete. She can read it with me, journal on her own, and have prompts to engage her friends all while growing in maturity and her walk with God. Just like there different seasons in a year, this devotional is separated by four parts: 1. Why did God create me this way? 2. Where do I find my identity? 3. How can I embrace my uniqueness? 4. How can I discover my potential and pursue my calling? My daughter has found the discussions relevant to her. Admitting she has tried to hide behind social media, making everything look picture perfect instead of revealing struggles. Hiding behind positivity, like everything is great. Some of the conversations we've had made me sad. My daughter's confessions of insecurities that I absolutely love about her as a person. I'm hoping she can continue to see God's truth in her instead of living behind masks. Requested from JustReadTours. I received a copy of this novel from the publisher. Thoughtful Encouragement for Teenage Girls
Being a teen was hard enough 30 years ago when I landed in that demographic. Add in the advent of cell phones and social media, and teenage girls are bombarded with videos, photos, and comments from friends, role models, celebrities, and complete strangers. Is it any wonder so many struggle with self-worth? In Love Your Selfie, Tessa Emily Hall gets real with teenage girls. The devotional is divided into four parts that will challenge them to discover their identities and embrace their uniqueness. Using scripture as a foundation for each chapter in the book as well as some personal anecdotes, she encourages young women to reflect on each week’s using the journal portion of the devotional as well as prayer then act on what they’ve learned through DIY projects, self-care tips, quizzes, and more. With topics like insecurity, shame, anxiety, becoming followers of Christ, modesty, body image, discernment, and direction, something in Love Your Selfie will resonate with all of its readers. The book is bound to create some thought-provoking moments for the teenage girl in your life, but I think it would also work in a small group to generate some discussion and help each member see they are not alone on the journey. Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
