A summer in Italy turns into a road trip across Tuscany in this sweeping New York Times bestseller filled with romance, mystery and adventure. Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, but she isn't in the mood for Italy's famous sunshine and fairy-tale landscape. She's only there because it was her mother's dying wish that she get to know her father. But what kind of father isn't around for sixteen years? All Lina wants to do is get back home. But then Lina is given a journal that her mom had kept when she lived in Italy. Suddenly Lina's uncovering a magical world of secret romances, art and hidden bakeries. A world that inspires Lina, along with the ever-so-charming Ren, to follow in her mother's footsteps and unearth a secret that has been kept for far too long. It's a secret that will change everything Lina knew about her mother, her father-and even herself. People come to Italy for love and gelato, someone tells her, but sometimes they discover much more. Kirkus Reviews called Love & Gelato "a sure bet for fans of romance fiction," while VOYA said readers "will find it difficult to put this book down." Readers are about to discover a new place, a new romance and a new talent.

Great Summer Read!

Love and Gelato gave me ambivalent feelings. For one, I loved going through the journey with Lina and uncovering little morsels of her mothers past as she lives through it herself. It was Lina’s mothers dying wish for her to meet her father in Italy. She travels to Italy after Hadley has passed due to her cancer and stays with Howard in his cemetery. Howard seems sweet and he acts as if everything is perfect and he truly reminds me of an oblivious puppy. But Lina is apprehensive about Howard and bothered by the question pounding in her head day and night: why did her parents split up, and why did it take her mom dying to find out about her father? She uses her mother's journal to uncover the secrets of the mystery between her parents. I think this is a wonderful aspect of the story and I really enjoyed experiencing all of the emotions alongside Lina. Lina’s character is a bit controversial for me. On one hand, she is a relatable teenager who has just gone through an unimaginable loss of her single parent for her whole life, and is trying to cope with everything given her situation. However, she seems almost too closed off to me, and at some points in the book I felt like screaming at her for being so closed off and sour. I think that these teen romance novels might not be for me in general, but I highly recommend it if you are interested in that sort of genre. I did like how the author incorporated aspects of other genres as well such as mystery and I thought it made for a good combination. I had a really hard time with the love triangle between Thomas, Lina, and Ren. I won’t spoil it, but I am ultimately happy with her decision, however I hate the intimacy clearly felt between Lina and, to avoid spoilers, I’ll call him X. Lina and X are clearly meant to be together but clearly there's a wall blocking the two from their destiny. The quality of the writing was not what I had hoped for but the plot kept me reading. The writing wasn’t as descriptive as I would prefer, and I wish there were more details but the book itself was excellently planned. Overall, although some aspects of the book aggravated me it certainly kept me reading for the outcome and I thought it was a great novel.

Addictive YA Romance

Lina is spending her summer in Tuscany but doesn’t want to be there, essentially living with a stranger after her mom died. After receiving her mother’s old journal, she dives into the mystery of her mother’s past and discovers secrets about her father that will change everything… This was a cute YA romance with an emotional journey through grief, first love, and embracing change. I listened to this audiobook very quickly, drawn in and reluctant to take breaks. I started listening to book 2 in series as soon as I finished this.

One of the best books I ever read (and I mean it!)

I got recommended this boo, my a friend and I will never regret buying it! In the story love and gelato it’s about a girl (I won’t spoil names!) who moved from Seattle to Italy to meet her dad who she has never seen and so she did want to go but since her mom had recently passed away from cancer she said that she had to do it for her. She loves to run and when she had ran behind the cemetery (her home now) she had found this boy who was playing soccer. They talked and they became friends. This is just a brief summary of the book but watching the main characters build stronger relationships and start showing emotions. I never wanted to look away from this book! Love and gelato will always have a place in my heart! <3

My new favorite book!

I don't think I'll ever get over this book. Although I've never been to Italy, it had me completely in love with everything about it! This book was full of romance, friendships, and a little bit of adventure. I liked the fact that Lina discovered her mother through her own experiences. One of the best parts was how realistic the author made these characters seem. The relationships between Lina, Ren and Howard were very special. They each have something unique to them, so it's clear to see why Lina and her mother fell for them. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to escape to Italy and fall in love!
