Nice Story

I was intrigued by the title "Look for Me There, Grieving my Father and Finding Myself." I heard of Luke Russert. I did not watch him much on MSNBC. I was familiar with his father from occasionally watching Meet the Press and remembered watching the news when his father passed away. I enjoyed reading about his travels to many countries - the history of the city and the people he met along the way. My favorite chapters were where Luke Russert was able to tie memories of his father with the city he was visiting, traveling with his mother/learning about their relationship and his grandfather and friend Corey. Chapter 25 - 'Owning Up' is my favorite chapter. After 3 years of traveling, I was wondering what his direction in life would be going forward. In the prior chapters, it seemed he was focused more on Instagram posts than finding his purpose and his health. At the end of this chapter, I was glad he decided to write this book and regain his focus. Although Luke considers himself privileged, I think his story is relatable to anyone who was close to a family member that suddenly passed.

Luke demonstrates reporting skills of M Orth

Thoroughly enjoyed reading Luke’s believing he could find himself by looking outside himself. He misses one parent and seems to overlook the wisdom of the other. I have traveled to many places Luke describes and his descriptions are real and brought them to life off the page. His personal meetings while engaging were missing outcomes. No follow ups that seem to reveal the spirit of his generation, not of either of his parents. I grew up with Luke’s father in south Buffalo and walked to and from Holy Family school daily until he moved to the suburbs. It is interesting how his life experiences have influenced him when I compare him to our children of comparable age. Also I was influenced by reading about his visits to places honoring the Virgin Mary. I hav tried to get a back issue 12-2015 of NatGeo where Maureen has written about her reverently. Libraries no longer keep back issues of magazines. It is an interesting finding about the times.

Look For Me There

“Look For Me There” is about one man’s journey to find himself, spread out across 3 years and 6 continents, after his father dies suddenly. Having lost both my parents, I know it’s a long process to go through the loss and grief. I think we would all like one more day with a loved one. Early in the book, he says, “by honoring his legacy (his dad’s legacy) I have failed to forge my own life.” After all his travels, he wrote, “Dad, I’ll never lose you because you’re here no matter what. I don’t have to look for you. Your love is within me.” This book is wonderful! Though at times, it is very sad. You feel what he does, as he writes with so much heart, emotion, and insight.

A Story of Grief, Love and Hope

If you are looking for a perspective of the “inside the beltway” politics, who’s up, who’s down, the calling of a new way for Washington to work, or a recall of the way of doing things, this isn’t the book for you. If you long to understand your grief, struggles, and pain and seek to find better ways to share unique experiences with people you love, then this book is for you. As much as this book is a story about a young man working through this own grief of his father-A legendary landmark in homes across America, respected and feared by elected leaders, and author of bestselling books about fatherhood-It’s the story about love—a story of connecting with strangers from across the world. The bond between a Father and Son is always special-baseball games, beer, and golf. However, what is sometimes overlooked are the comical, special bonds Sons have with their mothers. As much as this is a story about Luke finding himself, he lets the audience experience moments with his mother, Maureen Orth, a legendary figure in her own right. We all could use one more moment with someone we love that is no longer with us. Luke reminds us to use the moments now to reconnect with the people we love still with us and not be afraid to go to new places and meet new people. Read the book with a pad and paper; by the end, I assure you will find new places to explore, new wines to try, and a reminder to share that love with the people you love now.
