In this instant New York Times bestseller, a young Loki is desperate to prove himself as a hero—and not the villain he’s destined to become. It seems that everyone around Loki suspects him of inevitable villainy and depravity ... except for Amora. Asgard’s resident sorceress-in-training feels like a kindred spirit. But when Amora is banished to Earth, Loki loses the only person who saw his magic as a gift instead of a threat. So when mysterious murders on Earth, in the backstreets of Victorian London, seem connected to Asgardian magic, Loki jumps at the opportunity to investigate. But while Loki’s mission leads him back to Amora, it also makes him question what he really wants—and where the line between hero and villain really lies ...

love this !

loki's journey in the mcu was always very interesting to me, and i always love reading different stories about him. what i love most about this is the overall villainy tendencies of him and the newly introduced amora, a sorceress with ulterior motives. i was so invested in it that i stayed up all night reading. truly a wondrous story, and i wish there could've been more.

A Bit of a Mess, But a Fun Time in Loki's Shoes

This book was a bit of a mess for me. The beginning section was far too slow and just didn’t have anything in it that I cared about. I almost DNF’ed it, to be honest. But it drastically improved after the time jump, although it still wasn’t perfect or completely ensnaring. It was uneven at best, in the way in which it portrayed Loki’s inner turmoil and quest to find his place. This story almost felt like it found itself bound to making Loki more of a heartless and selfish villain when it didn’t actually want to (and wrote away from that). Like, yes, that’s part of his journey, but the struggle that the book has with that eventuality just feels different. I’ll say that one of the most frustrating parts of this novel for me is just not being able to place it in time, both in terms of Loki’s age(s) as well as how far ahead of his first MCU appearance this takes place. I only felt like I got clarification on that at the very end (the last page or two, literally) and even then, after everything I read, it didn’t feel quite right. All of my gripes aside, I loved the fish out of water story here and seeing Loki interact with Victorian London. Mackenzi Lee’s writing was perfect for Loki’s playful yet hesitant personality and it didn’t take much coaxing to invest in all of the human characters. (I’d say all of the “new” characters, but I really didn’t care about Amora at all.) I almost found myself wishing that this book and its characters were referenced in the first Thor film was well as the first Avengers movie because it would’ve added so much to Loki at those moments. I’m always thrilled to be able to dive into MCU-related stories and adventures and to get to know these beloved characters better. While I’m glad to have gotten more time in Loki’s shoes, I do wish this one had been a bit more polished or thought through.

Great book

I love this book. Each character made it interesting especially Loki, of course. The plot was interesting. The romance in this wasn’t too much but it still had some in it which I thought was good. I like it.

Interesting Perspective into Loki's Story

Can our destiny be changed or are we bound to our fates? This is the question that MacKenzi Lee asks in her tale of the god of mischief. The story follows Loki in his younger years before crossing paths with the Avengers. The tale looks into the mind of Loki and how he shaped in the eyes of Asgard. Loki travels to 19th century London to investigate a string of murders. As a long time fan of both the comics and the MCU, I was interested in reading this new story. What I have found is that is average at best. I feel the author missed the opportunity to unleash the magic that Norse mythology and the Marvel comics bring. I felt that the London setting made the story feel bland. The author did however pull characters from the comics that are not as well-known but play intriguing parts. Overall it is a decent book but I feel like it is missing a spark that would make the novel stand out on the bookshelf.

Loki is a must read

I have struggled finding books for my 12 year old that he will finish . I never thought I would see him finish a 400 page book. He absolutely loved this book. He loved all the cliffhangers and was constantly wanting to read more. We are looking forward to the next Marvel release
