One of the benefits of real, physical toys like Legos is that they are great non-screen-device playthings. It is unfortunate and absurd that an app is required to build this kit. If you want the instructions to be in a story format, then include a printout of the story!

Response from LEGO
We’re sorry to hear you’re not happy with your LEGO® set, and we appreciate your feedback. Our City Mission sets use videos in the LEGO Building Instructions app to deliver a story that unleashes imagination and creativity for a more interactive play experience. Brief digital building instructions are provided in-app to give a foundational model to get our fans started. An in-app vs printed solution allows us to make this experience available to more kids in their own languages!
Family storytime
Usually, my husband and I try to create stories with LEGO. And often we miss specialized parts, so I took this set because of the extra parts. Our boy is too young to build on his own. He loved following missions in the app and rescuing animals and taking care of them. Boosts his imagination. It quickly became one of our favorite sets.

LEGO Set 60355 missing instruction booklet
Missing assembly booklet. Grandson tore box so I couldn’t return.
Interesting building experience
My son really enjoyed going thru the story and saving all the animals, and once finished he was looking for more story and animals to save. The set comes with nice parts selection, which allows you to come up with interesting dessings for the car.

Wished it was a comic, but loved it
My child has really enjoyed this set so far. The imaginative play potential is really high and I appreciate the "base build" + creativity concept of the series: it is something I hope Lego does more of in the future. The videos are fun and we liked the build music. The build instructions and application were (mostly) navigable without help although they did get hung up a few times on what the app was asking them to do and I had to help. In particular the "play time" thing wasn't clear to them. I wish the free build prompts had suggested some more ideas instead of just the builds like: "How will you contact the scientists at base? What will you need for animals that are only awake at night?" I really wish there was a PDF version of the instructions instead of the app. I think a comic book format would have been awesome to drop the technology requirement and would have been just as fun of a parent + child activity. They really got a sense of pride by completing the model themselves and were bragging that they "didn't need the instructions or any help!" by the end.

Response from LEGO
Thanks for your feedback. Looks like we could've made the building experience even better on the LEGO® Builder app. We love to explore new ways to build, but we also keep the PDF versions of most of our sets. Check them out at LEGO.build/BI-BV.
Fun and creative
My kids (aged almost 5 and 7) loved this set. The accompanying story played on a smartphone or tablet made it more engaging and fun. By giving them the liberty to create their own inventions (with ideas) it allowed them to play together in building a single set, something that is typically a struggle for two young kids with a transitional instruction-based set. We opened it today, and they played together for hours making many inventions for their rescue truck to save the different animal figures included. We will be on the lookout for more mission sets. Hoping they add some for Lego Friends too!

great for less experienced builders
I have two kiddos, and I bought them each a different city missions set. This review is for the rescue set for my non-binary child. This kiddo loves playing with LEGOs with their sibling, but often finds the building part less fun, while my other child loves to build and follow the instructions. So first of all, the instructions were a lot more clear for my child on the app, and they even learned more techniques for using the orange tool that takes LEGOs apart. They were also totally enthralled by the story line. Later, they had a great time incorporating the new pieces into their LEGO play. Like many, my kids LOVE LEGO animals, so this set was great for that. My older child did not enjoy the mission experience so much, so I really recommend this for less experienced builders, and people more interested in a plot/story/goal.

So much fun!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My kids love to build and play with Lego, and I love that it’s a toy that makes them learn so much. It build strength in our kids hands and teaches them how to follow instructions and look at things carefully. After the animal rescue Lego was built they played with it for hours pretending to rescue animals. Such a great toy.
