Handle snapped
Undeniably makes a good brew. Purchased not over 6 months. During the first few months I found a tiny plastic fell off from the handle until the came off completely.

Well-thought out innovations
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using this item just over a week. I like siphon-style coffee a lot, and have made it on and off for decades; I usually use it as an every-morning pot. To some extent, siphon coffee is siphon coffee; it's all pretty good. The KitchenAid has a number of interesting, well though out innovations though. The magnetic latch is super. It means the rubber gasket is quite small and feels sturdy, thus eliminating a failure point of many competing siphon brewers. Every brewer I have had ultimately broke or cracked on the long glass siphon tube, so KitchenAid's replacing that tube with a stainless steel one is a great move. Then, because the siphon tube isn't an extension of the top chamber, the interface between the filter and the vacuum is exceptionally large, so the vacuum process goes very very fast realtive to anything I have used. As a result you'll need to use a little more coffee -- you don't have that long slow pull through the grounds, but, I _think_ that's a good thing? The coffee feels a little less bitter to me this way and I can't imagine you could easily clog up the filter. I have not used the cloth filter and probably won't. I have twice made the mistake of thinking the filter was locked into place when it wasn't, ugh. But I think I am getting the hang of it and it isn't a serious long-term problem. The only innovation not so good is pouring out the last cup or two is not great; it's tricky. I have only made 6 or 8 cup batches because traditionally siphon brewers work poorly for small quantities, but, maybe I'll give 4 cups a try and update this. The whole thing feels solid and well built.

Amazing coffee, poor quality of materials
Got this coffee maker as a gift and the coffee is amazing when you use it. The globe broke just from cleaning (it had been on its stand all day) and I can’t make coffee now. To my understanding they do not make replacement parts as I would love to continue to use this.

Good and fast, but not perfect
Pros: - Very easy to make a lot of coffee. - Very quick. - Can set it up the night before and then just use a smart powerpoint or other nest-type power device to turn it on from bed - Looks pretty. Cons: - The cleanup takes a while - there's a fair bit more cleaning with this than other types of filter coffee makers. - The included filter is not fine enough. The addition of the (also included) cloth filter that you wrap around the mesh filter seems to have been an afterthought. They should have just used a finer mesh filter to begin with. We find that we aren't happy with the coffee (it has a lot of residue/kind of muddy) at all unless we use the cloth filter. As for the coffee it makes, I'd say that it is moderately good but not great. I prefer coffee made from my chemex or aeropress, but that takes a long time to do in any quantity and not what I want to be doing first thing on a weekday morning, and I also prefer the coffee from a Moccamaster, but the siphon brewer is much, much faster, so it scales better. I'd say the coffee from the Siphon brewer is more robust - closer to a long back from an espresso than the tea-style coffee you get from a pourover or slow drip filter.
