I’m a s**t for Holly Jackson books and I’m OBSESSED with the AGGGTM series. I thought this was a fun little book but for anyone who hasn’t read the series yet, you don’t have to read this one in order to read the others. It’s sorta just to show what piqued Pip’s interest to investigate the Andie Bell case.

🌸 ARIANA'S BOOK REVIEW 🌸 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 Genre: Mystery, Young Adult, Thriller, Contemporary, Novella In this prequel to the “A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder” series, Holly Jackson takes readers on a thrilling journey into the world of murder mysteries and fiction within fiction. The story centers around Pippa Fitz-Amobi, a character beloved by fans of the series, and gives us a deeper understanding of her origins and detective skills. The premise of the book is absolutely captivating. The murder mystery party set in a 1920s world called Joy promises to be an immersive and enchanting experience. I could envision the elaborate costumes, the atmospheric setting, and the suspense hanging in the air. The combination of the murder mystery party with a fictional island creates a unique and intriguing backdrop for the story to unfold. As Pip reluctantly takes part into the game, she finds herself quickly drawn into a web of intrigue and deception. What starts as a fun event soon transforms into a real-life investigation when a murder occurs within the game. I could sense the adrenaline pumping as Pip, driven by her natural detective instincts, becomes determined to uncover the truth behind the murder of Reginald Remy. But it doesn’t stop there. “Kill Joy” introduces another mystery that captures Pip’s attention, leaving readers eager to unravel the secrets that lie beneath the surface of Little Kilton. This additional layer of suspense adds depth to the narrative and keeps the readers hooked, page after page. What truly stands out in Jackson’s writing is her ability to create complex and relatable characters. Through Pip, readers are given a protagonist who is not only intelligent and resourceful, but also flawed and vulnerable. Her development throughout the book allows readers to form a strong connection with her, making every twist and turn in the plot all the more suspenseful. Overall, “Kill Joy” is an enthralling read. With its immersive setting, intricate mysteries, and well-developed characters, it’s clear that Holly Jackson has crafted a prequel that will captivate fans of the “A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder” series and new readers alike. People who have read ‘One Of Us Is Lying’ (Karen M. Macnus), ‘The Inheritance Game’ (Jennifer Lynn Barnes) and ‘How To Survive Your Murder’ (Danielle Valentine) may like this book.

Follow along as Pip is taken in by an imaginative plot filled with duplicity and death. Will she be able to figure out who the killer is or will she let another case in her thoughts take over. Fun prequel to A Good Girl's Guide to Murder
Pippa Fitz-Amobi returns in this prequel to the series A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. She's been invited to a murder mystery night with all her friends. Dressed as her character, she's not that into the whole thing until she gets there. True to her character, Pip soon finds herself immersed in the game. It was great to be back with Pippa in this novella, and to see her clever brain in action. It's a fun, quick read, nothing too heavy or too serious. And I loved the ending.

Fun Prequel
“They couldn’t get away from it, no matter how many years passed; the town and those deaths came hand in hand, forever tied together.” This novella is a prequel to A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder. One of Pip’s friends, Connor, invites people over for a 1920s-themed murder mystery, and Pip is not in the mood to participate, thinking she has better things to do. However, once the game starts, she puts her heart and soul into finding the make-believe killer. When I read this book, I did not know it was a prequel, so I was confused before I realized that. This book was a fast read, and I already knew all the characters, so it was easier to understand what was happening. It was interesting to see what Pip was like before the Andie Bell case consumed her. I liked how she and her friends interacted, and it was refreshing to see a more light-hearted book compared to the series.

Pip solves a 1920 mystery
This was such a cute read. It was fun to see Pip use her detective skills for something a lot more lighthearted. A 1920s murder mystery dinner? It was perfect. Her competitiveness was hilarious (and totally relatable.) We also get to see a little of the thought process behind her choosing Andie Bell’s murder case for her senior project in AGGGTM. Big thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy!
