14k gold or gold plated over silver

I bought these earrings on 2020. They broke and I took them to a jeweler for repairs. He said the earring where no 14k gold, but plated gold over silver. I was very disappointed to hear that. I jus checked the description for the product, it describes the earrings as 14k gold, not gold plated.
