Product Details
Web ID: 17065566Inferior to the base builder's quality disposal
Inferior to the base builder's quality disposal it replaced. Doubt that it's 1/2 HP, frequently stalled and buzzed, had to keep the hex wrench handy to free it up

Noisy all of a sudden
We bought this to replace a smaller 1/3 hp insinkerator badger disposer that was 24 years old. It hasn't been in for a year yet and started rattling like something is loose inside but nothing is inside. After running a while it get quiet like it used to?

Hi 11mike, thank you for sharing with us. Unknowingly, something might have gotten down inside the disposer, causing this. A rattling noise is usually caused by a foreign object or food debris. Sometimes something hard and small can get wedged in the grinding components and be very difficult to see. Check out our troubleshooting guide here that may help you fix the issue: https://support.insinkerator.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/518.
Low quality internal parts that rust
My first Badger 5 failed 2 years after installation. The motor hummed, but the impeller failed to turn---likely frozen in place. I replaced it with a second Badger and it too failed after less than 3 years, this time making scraping sounds. I reached inside and pulled out 7 large rusted metal pieces of debris.

Hi, thank you for sharing with us. We can understand your frustration, and we're sorry to hear that our product failed to meet your expectations. There are many issues that can be resolved through step-by-step troubleshooting. Inside the grind chamber, you should see two metal lugs or impellers attached to the “floor" of the disposer. If you notice any loose metal pieces besides the two impellers, they are most likely foreign objects that have gotten down inside the chamber. If you still need assistance, you can always contact our customer service team at https://support.insinkerator.com/app/ask.

The Badger
This will be the 3rd Badger 5 installed in our kitchen in the past 32 years so that's a pretty good life expectancy for the first two. This one is a few inches shorter than the last two Badgers and seems a little quieter. Time will tell whether it will last as long as it's bigger (taller) brothers.
