If you love Alice in Wonderland, this is the book for you. There are so many details that are from the original book, or cartoon if you never read them, that made the world building more exciting. I enjoyed the twist that Marissa Meyer's created for the Red Queen's "origin story." A sweet romance that was a breath of fresh air from my usual dark romance. Again, if you enjoy Alice in Wonderland, I recommend it!

Not Worth It
I was constantly bored throughout reading it, the plot is sorta basic, and it overall just didn’t capture my imagination. When I first bought it I was excited thinking that it would be a fun romantic mystery, but I was let down. Plus (*sort of spoiler alert*) the ending sucked.

SO GOOD
Y’all. Oh my gosh. This one has been sitting on my tbr for soooooo long but I finally got around to it and I BINGED. Miss Marissa Meyer has done it again. From the start I was sucked into the world of Wonderland and taken back to my childhood. I absolutely loved the way that there were so many aspects and characters from the original Alice in Wonderland but also that the world was expanded upon and made unique. The characters were so interesting and I really loved Catherine and the relationship between her and Jest. It made me so anxious while reading because obviously Cath becomes the villainous Queen of Hearts so I knew the story was not going to end well, but that made it to where I just couldn’t put it down. Overall I really liked this book and haven’t gotten this into one in a while. It will definitely change the way that I view Alice in Wonderland in the future, seeing the world and the characters in a new, almost tragic light. Rating: 5/5⭐️

Obessed!!
From the first page to the last, Meyer captured my attention. She managed to transport me into the very pages of this book, painting a vivid picture of wonderland. I couldn't put the book down! Seeing the growth of each character and the undying nature of love was incredible. It's filled with twists and turns, tragedy and romance, and so much more. This is easily my all-time favorite book!

5 Stars: I am in Shambles
RATING SYSTEM: 5 – Absolute love 4 – Enjoyed it 3 – I liked it… mostly 2 – Forced myself to finish, but at least I finished 1 – Couldn’t finish it Moments: My highlighting system involves highlighting scenes I enjoy, find funny, and things that make me go “aw”. For me, I had 10 funny highlights, 8 aw (some of these were followed by tears), and 17 scenes I just LOVED but I loved most of this book. What I Liked: Loving the MMC and FMC together. Actually, loving all the characters. I'm a big fan of the writing. It's very visual and I loved the small things about Hearts, like sleeping clocks or cards that fell and can't get up. Normally I skip those paragraphs where it's explaining what things look like and such, but these really capture and keep your attention. The FMC is a wonderful character to read about, the MMC is just so perfect. He definitely makes mistakes and doesn't say the right thing 100% of the time but there is something about this man. What I "disliked": I will never forgive myself for not realizing this was NOT going to end in HEA. That's my fault, but putting it here as a warning. I would still recommend reading. Notes: Characters: I was in love with Jest (MMC) from the moment we met him. I wanted to know what was going on in his head. He was just so sweet and cute, protective golden retriever with a heart of gold. Our wonderful Catherine (FMC) is well-rounded. I liked the way she was introduced, it was a perfect Segway into who she was as a character and a baker. And I'd like to mention Jest again because UGH, he's so cute. Hatta was very interesting, even if he ended up making me feel angry. Plot/Story: Normally I would lose my mind that Catherine couldn't stand up for herself. But this would written in such a way that not only was it understandable, but it wasn't that she was a doormat… she didn't just do as told. She did live her life, even if there was an obstacle there. Romance: Catherine and Jest are adorable. I loved them together. Their little formal quips are so cute. I was loving their conversations, every way, shape, and form. General: This book is basically Wonderland before Alice arrived. Before all the tragedy. Before the Hatter was Mad. Before the White Rabbit couldn't keep track of Time. Before it all, and it's gorgeous. The King of Hearts wants to marry our Catherine, who is not interested at all. Her and Jest have the cutest little thing going on (as I said) but there are many obstacles in their way. Overall: I ate this up. I mean, just devoured it. However, I'm also in shambles. This book had an absolutely wonderful ending. I will admit that it really is an amazingly written book, it really captivated me. I'm so happy I got to read it. I fell in love with the world and the story. I love that it all wrapped up so well. It really just was a perfect background to the characters of Alice in Wonderland, even if it wasn't written by the OG author.
