Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales collects more than 200 tales set down by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm in the early decades of the nineteenth century, among them some of the best-loved and most famous fairy tales in all literature: "Little Red Riding Hood," "Snow-White and the Seven Dwarfs," "Cinderella," "Sleeping Beauty," "Rapunzel," "Rumpelstiltskin," and "Tom Thumb." Derived from folk tales that had been part of the oral storytelling tradition for centuries, these stories are acknowledged as literary landmarks that transcend their time and culture. This edition also features ten rarely seen "Children's Legends" and the full-color artwork of Arthur Rackham. Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales is one of Barnes & Noble's Collectible Editions classics. Each volume features authoritative texts by the world's greatest authors in an exquisitely designed bonded-leather binding, with distinctive gilt edging and a ribbon bookmark. Decorative, durable, and collectible, these books offer hours of pleasure to readers young and old and are an indispensable cornerstone for every home library.

Lovely edition

Lovely edition and one of the prettiest books I own. I did not realize that many of the stories I consider "Disney ", originated in the Grimm's brother fairy tales. This book would be a magical gift for an imaginative and book loving kid. It has some color and some black and white illustrations.

Not the Best Edition

I was disappointed with the translation. I bought it because I loved the cover. If you want a great translation your 7 year old will love buy the one with the commentary by Joseph Campbell And the Pantheon Fairytale and Folklore Library. This edition has more description with “action,” “songs,” and “quotes” That make it feel alive rather reading a summary of the story.

A wonderful collector's edtion of Grimm's works.

I've seen this book in the store for years and I finally bought it and I am very pleased with it. The book itself is bound beautifully in blue with gold thorns, silver roses, stars and moon design centered with a glossy illustration of Sleeping Beauty. The book's pages are nice & are lined with gold colored foil-like coat. It has a long ribbon bookmarker attached. The illustrations are lovely as well. If I had to list problems it be; first the gold slightly comes off [but isn't noticeable really]. Second it also says "complete fairy tales" but according to Wikipedia there is 205 fairy tales in their first two volumes [and that is not counting the 30 which were not included in the last volume. However as far as I can tell most of those were not translated to English]. This book comes with 200 [so at least 5 are missing] but it still comes with 200 wonderful fairy tales [among those 200 are the classics such as Sleeping Beauty] plus 10 Children's Legend. Rather then that it is fine. However, this book is a collector’s edition. Because of its size and the gold coat on the pages it will get ruined if not treated with care. This is not recommended for children who do not know how to handle with care. If you want this book simply to read the stories, I recommend Barn’s and Noble Classics which are soft backed, easier to carry around, and not as fragile. Still Grimm’s books are not recommended for those who are easily frighten or offered. That said I read these stories even when I was a child and loved them so it all depends on the viewer. That said I am happy to add this book to my library.
