Let me preface this by saying I rarely give a book 5 stars, but this book took my breath away! Every plot twist genuinely surprised me and made total sense (unlike other authors who throw the most random twists in). I fell in love with the graceling world and the complex adventures. I couldn’t put the book down!

Loved It!
The story is very interesting and the character development the main female character goes through is very intriguing to witness. Nearing the end of the book, the pace did pick up but I personally didn’t mind it.

Great for a classroom
This quickly became an instant classroom shelf book for me. Graceling is great for teens that need a bit of escapism and the understanding that it's ok to be different and those differences should be celebrated. The graphic novel version cuts a bit from the novel, but that makes it an easy read for struggling readers and provides a draw to students that don't typically enjoy text heavy material. It was definitely an instant favorite, an easy read, and something that will remain on my classroom shelf.

An All-Time Favorite
I read Graceling for the first time when I was 13 and absolutely adored it, so I was absolutely terrified to re-read it so many years later and see how it held up. And I was beyond pleasantly surprised how much I still love this book!! Katsa is an absolutely compelling protagonist I couldn't help but love, and the side characters are written splendidly. I'm absolutely in love with Po, and the main big-bad is one of my favorite characters to hate in all of YA. I always recommend this book to people who want to get into fantasy but get overwhelmed by over-the-top world building; the world is colorful and rich without being overbearing and overly complex. I'm so glad Cashore is writing in this world again because I could keep reading this series forever.

Well done retelling
It’s been almost 12 years since I read GRACELING and it still stands out in my memory as one of my most favorite young adult novels…even when, back then, I wasn’t reading much YA. This graphic novel retells GRACELING, the story of Katsa and Po in their alliance to find the people responsible for kidnapping Po’s grandfather. In a world where “graced” people have a special skill, and where that special skill can be taken advantage of by someone of power. When neither know who their actual foe is, Katsa and Po form an unexpected alliance…and more. I’m not going to spoil what happens for those who haven’t read GRACELING, or for those, like me, who simply can’t remember all the details of the story. But it’s important to know, this is not a new story, just a retelling of the original novel in graphic form. Things I forgot: Katsa is a badass! Seriously, why isn’t she making the lists of top badass heroines? I also forgot how much I adored Po. The art: Gareth Hinds did an amazing job portraying these characters and surroundings in graphic detail. But my favorite scenes were the fight scenes! I’ve read so many graphic novels and comics where the fight scenes were difficult to read, but these were so well done I felt like I was reading exactly what happened. The romance: While not a conventional HEA, I still felt the tension and heartbreak between Katsa and Po like I did when originally reading the novel. The mystery: Kinda obvious and I felt like the bad guy was a little more scarier in the novel. The writing: The dialogue was great. Unfortunately, Katsa’s inner monologues told much of the back story and current happenings that it slowed down the pace of the story a bit. Overall, highly recommended for any GRACELING fan.

Shorter, but Still Fun!
As a fan of the original, I was excited for the graphic novel! The story is very streamlined for this format so a lot of little details are lost. The little details are what I loved most about the novel, so it was a bit of a bummer. That being said, it was amazing to see Katsa and Po's story play out visually! Even condensed, the story still comes through and it's a nice dive back into the Graceling world. I received an advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Graphic Novel
Graceling is about Katsa, one of the rare people born with an amazing skill. After her abilities have been noticed, she is forced into doing her to do her uncle's bidding. She meets Po, a prince who has special abilities of his own. He is also a perfect match for Katsa. They form a special bond with one another while trying to fight for justice. While I have not read the original work, I did enjoy this graphic novel. The story was action-packed with some romance. The illustrations were beautiful, and it helped get a sense of the world they are in. I hope the rest of the series is slated to be adapted into graphic novels as well. Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
