Google assistant with great sound for music
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Google assistant technology has been steadily improving over time (have had a mini for over a year) and the Google max adds some serious quality sound to go with it! Integration with Spotify, YouTube music, and Apple music is beneficial.

Drops connection from available devices
We have 4 Google Minis & just added in 2 Google Maxes. Speakers were placed in each corner of living room, with the 4 minis in the dining and kitchen atop the cabinets. Our objective was full stereo surround sound for the living / dining / kitchen. The Google Minis are always on standby and ready to go, but the Maxes we found had to be rebooted each and every time to play music. In Chromecast app, they just continually disappear from available devices. Maybe setting a timer to an outlet to make it reboot regularly would help- not sure. Also comes with a detachable magnetic shield that sticks onto bottom of speaker depending how positioned, but is an easily lost item. If ceilings are over 8ft, you will want to position the speaker vertical. The speaker is well built, sounds very good - but a bit overly "boomy" for my taste. The main problem is in the software as the speakers don't remain in standby as do our minis. We also didn't like the red lights in the middle on the front - it was kind of creepy looking and no way to turn off - in a spy type way. The microphone can be turned off luckily, but we are not sure if it turns off a 2-way microphone, or if it just makes Google mute. Google customer service was very helpful via the chat line, but think this product still has some bugs to work out - and hopefully it can be all resolved on the software side. We returned the Maxes as it just was too much trouble to keep rebooting, re-pairing, etc. Our house is equipped with all the latest premium wifi equipment & router so it wasn't equipment issues on our side. But a regular wired setup we decided was better for us to achieve stereo sound, so we just went with a traditional stereo setup in living room, with Chromecast that is built into a new Marantz receiver. Now we have instant music whenever we want all at the touch of a button without the need to reboot & pair & wait & wait. We are keeping the minis, though, but all are set to "mute" because they will start blabbering away about something even if you never said "Hey Google."
