Great Start to a Series

Are you a Sci-Fi fan? I never read it, but when I saw Girls With Sharp Sticks was a Sci-Fi/Thriller I had to check it out. This is the first one in a three part series I just learned, and wow was it engaging. It’s over 400 pages and for a YA I thought was long, but I couldn’t put it down. There are so many twists throughout the story that I kept guessing what I thought was really happening and the end was not what I expected at all! I love books like that! Mena attends The Girls of Innovation Academy. All the girls are taught to be beautiful and perfect, and under the watch of the Guardian, they are obedient and follow orders. When Mena and her friends start to undercover some secrets and start asking one too many questions about the school and their donors, the Academy becomes angry. You have no idea who to trust in this one and it’s so fast paced it keeps you on your toes.

Wow!!!!

I actually bought this right after it released, but waited to read after the series was complete. I know how Mrs. Young loves her cliffhanger endings. True to her style, this first installment had me gripped from page one. I love how her books address real issues and really make you think!! Can't wait to dive in to book 2!!

Powerful, A Must Read

A big takeaway from this book is that women supporting women will always be powerful and when women work together, there's no stopping them. The main protag. characters are unique and I found myself caring for each of them deeply. This book is for anyone who believes girls can kick.... butt.

Strange but ok

Ok, first, I did not realize this was YA or Sci-fi. Neither of which I'm a fan of. That being said, the writing style was pretty good, very easy to read for the most part. There were some preachy sisterhood moments that made my eyes glaze over though. I'd say if you like sci-fi and ya, this is probably going to be your cup of tea, otherwise, give it a pass.
