I titled my review as "Underrated", as I had originally planned on buying this watch for myself, but chose the G8900A-1 model first, because I had never owned a G-SHOCK before, and had read a few negative reviews on this model here at the Macy's site. I wanted my first G-SHOCK experience to be a good one, and so as I said - went with the G8900A-1 first. Well, a year went by, and I was still interested in this model, and was about to purchase it when a family member did so for me - as a gift for Christmas, and I've enjoyed it completely. So far, I've not experienced any problems at all with the battery, as was mentioned in any of the negative reviews. I'm really pleased with it, and just use common sense when not wearing it - let it sit on a window-sill in direct sunlight when I think of it. It doesn't have to be every single day, but when I think of it - I do so, and it has plenty of power. Also, make sure you read the manual! I've noticed a few comments on this, and other G-SHOCK models, that could easily have been cleared up, if the owners had read their manuals! I admit the display wasn't as big as I would have liked - say as big as the G8900A-1 model for example, but I assumed that was due to the additional features within the display, such as the Moon, and Tidal Graph's, etc; Overall I'm very pleased, and I highly recommend this watch! Cheers, DOC ; )-
Was a gift for my brith Day! And I Love it the technology is incredible!! Excellent!!!!
If you want a watch with low maintenance no battery change and keeps time to the point of 1 thousand's of a second's . Its the Best!!!! For Tech's Technologist and Scientists!!!
bad design
This watch has 4 decorative screws on the front that will eventually come out leaving an unbalanced unappealing look. Worse, the watch is not water resistant. Don't jump in the ocean or pool in this watch and expect it to keep working. Casio says front screws not the reason water got in, more likely a incorrect battery replacement job. In any case, it was a bad purchase, I expect more from the G-Shock brand.
poor display
I would have gave this one star but I really liked the look of the watch. I really love the Gshock/BabyG line, unfortunately this watch did not compare to the others we have owned. The display is very dull and even after getting it's "solar fix", the display continue to be very dull. I will be returning this for a different style. Will continue to buy Gshock/BabyG line, but now know what not to get. Don't waste your time with this one, many other good styles to choose from.
Love it
Great gift for someone in the military :) he loved it so much. Good watch. Durable.
Great gift!
Outstanding watch. Bought for my husband for Valentine day. Meets and exceeds all of his expectations.
Don't Buy This Watch
If you want to spend every waking moment of your life making sure your watch is in the sun, then buy this watch. The battery life is horrible. I have had the watch for three months and I am having the same problems as the others reviewers are having. Frankly, I am surprised the other reviewers still gave the product decent scores. It doesn't matter how cool the features are or how nice the watch looks if the battery only lasts for a couple months. I thought I just got a bad apple, so I returned it only to find that the buttons don't work on the new one. I have owned numerous G-shock watches in the past and have never had any problems, but this one does not live up to their standards. Don't buy it.
Love it ....
However... I believe I have a faulty watch. Have had mine for about 2 weeks, as Christmas present, and knowing that I was solar I made sure that the battery was fully charged by placing in direct sunlight for a few hours and under artificial light for another few hours (around 8 hours total or so). This morning after taking a shower and looking for the time on the watch I found nothing on the display and no reaction from any of the buttons. Few minutes later of being outside, I saw that the CHG indicator was flashing so once again left it in direct sunlight for about 4 hours on the dash since I was about to take a long drive anyways and I kept on checking on it every so often. Halfway through my drive I was able to see that all functions have had returned to normal and the battery indicator was now set at M (medium charge). Well.. about 45 minutes ago that I got home and that it got dark outside I was surprised to see that again the CHG indicator was lit and the display flashing "LOW". What's weird is that in the time it took me to fill out a warranty claim with Macys, battery indicator on the watch had gone back to M (medium charge). I hope Macys can get me straighten out quickly because I really do like this watch.
