Love the fit, but it's a bit scratchy

I love this dress for errands, brunch, or hanging out on the beach. It's fit is fun and more bubble that it appears in the photo. I love the color. But the fabric is a lot thicker than I was expecting. More like a denim than a gauze. It's scratchy right now. Once I wash it a few times, I expect it to soften. Would like to get it in another color. Oh, and I wear shorts under it because of my torso length
