"Suspenseful, sexy, and with incredibly entertaining storytelling, the first in Yarros' Empyrean series will delight fans of romantic, adventure-filled fantasy." Booklist, starred review "Fourth Wing will have your heart pounding from beginning to end. A fantasy like you've never read before." 1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from USA Today bestselling author Rebecca YarrosTwenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general also known as her tough-as-talons mother has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre- dragon riders. But when you're smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away. Because dragons don't bond to "fragile" humans. They incinerate them. With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success.

will suck you in no matter what reader you are

This got me hooked. I don't even read a lot of high fantasy yet I was absolutely hooked onto this. We're fully immersed into the world and you're immediately endeared to Violet. You root for her in this scary world and we learn quickly to never make connections because you don't know who will make it to the next day. The ending is confusing, heartbreaking and the cliffhanger will have you shouting and reaching for Iron Flame.

Oh brother this guy stinks

If I could give this book a lower rating, I would. I'm not even being over dramatic when I say this is the WORST piece literature I've ever read. First of the all the main characters were so self-centered it made me throw the book ever time they had something to say. Not only doesn't Voilet understand that people have to do everything their power to keep her alive because she has proving time and time again that she can't do it herself. This girl is 20 years old acting like she's a fragile toddler who can't do anything. This book is the farthest thing away from enemies to lover. They disliked each other for a sec then it was over. And the worst part was when she found out everything and why they want to keep it a secret she was mad because she wasn't part of the book club. Like girl you haven't been together for that long for him to be telling you his life story.

Obsessed: This Series Has Stolen My Heart!

I’m absolutely obsessed with this series! The thrill, the love, the lust, and the intense battle to save everyone—Rebecca Yarros had me hooked from start to finish. Vi and Xaden have completely stolen my heart. Every time I look at my husband, I can’t help but see Xaden (which, honestly, makes me love the books even more). I don’t know how I’m supposed to survive the wait for the next book. I feel like Vi—lost and searching for Xaden! The way Yarros left us on the edge of our seats is almost cruel, but in the best way possible. I read the books and listened to the audiobooks on long drives, completely immersed in this world. I might need to join an anonymous support group just to process all these emotions. If you haven’t read this series yet, what are you waiting for?

Officially out of my Fantasy Slump!

Thank you Fourth Wing for getting me out of my fantasy slump. 5/5 Stars Alrighty, here we go. Do I think Fourth Wing is some high art novel, pushing the boundaries of what literature and the fantasy genre can do? No I do not. But did I enjoy every page and did I devour this book like a starving dragon? Hell yeah. I bought both Fourth Wing and Iron Flame last year in the airport when the Holiday Edition of Book 1 came out because I had heard so much about this series. And then... these books sat on my shelves for a year while I kept looking past them because I wasn't quite in the mood. But I finally picked this up again and I am so glad that I did. I initially described this to my sister as Harry Potter/Divergent/Game of Thrones/Hunger Games/How to Train Your Dragon. It was exactly what I though it would be, and yet I was eating it up. Violet is a fun protagonist. She may not always be the strongest physically, but she's quick witted and strong willed and constantly determined to prove herself and do the right thing. The chemistry between Violet and Xaden had me kicking my feet and blushing, but the ensemble cast is strong and the relationships between Violet and the other cadets and her professors is captivating. I'm a romance reader through and through, but the plot is compelling enough to stand on its own. The writing style is easy to digest. Even with the fantastical elements, names, and locations I never felt like I was lost which honestly happens to me in high-fantasy from time to time. I'd easily recommend this for readers looking to try out the romantasy and fantasy genres. I really, genuinely enjoyed Fourth Wing and am excited to continue on with this series.

Buckle Up

You want a book that will send you on a rollercoaster of emotions (with a bit of spice) that'll be sure to give you whiplash? If so, buckle up. This book sends you on one hell of a ride! There were moments that absolutely punched me in the soul, but also just as many that had me laughing or smiling. I couldn't bring myself to stop reading- and I can't say that about many of the books I've attempted reading in the past year.
