Filled with Positivity and Encouragement

This is one of the best books that I have read for encouragement, no matter what stage of life you are in. With his signature anecdotes and humor, Bob Goff encourages people to use where you are now as a launching pad for where you really want to be. The book is filled with quotable insight and wisdom about how to go about figuring out what direction to go in and how to get where you want to go. I enjoyed the personal anecdotes and the view into the author’s own life and his struggles. I especially enjoyed how he made it a point to say that he just walked away from a successful law practice in order to concentrate on helping others, particularly the young children in Uganda. What a beautiful picture of what a Christian should do, if they can! This book would make a great gift for graduates, for those who find themselves unemployed and looking for the next thing and for those who just need encouragement to move forward out of the hole that we have dug ourselves into. I highly recommend this book to those who want to think positively about the future! Bob is buoyantly encouraging!

I really love this book. I’m in the middle of life, about to take a couple kids to start college, finish high school with my other two, and am starting to think about how I might like to spend the rest of my life. Answering the “What’s next?” question is key and it’s been fun to listen to Bob’s stories and think about where I might go next. I like the questions for each section of the book at the back! I will probably read it again with a journal so I can process it all a little better. This book was really encouraging and I’ve already passed on several copies to friends. It was really wonderful to have such a buoyant voice to begin this chapter of life!

Highlighted half of this book! It's that good.

Wowsers. I think I highlighted half of this book. That's how good it was. So good that I both listened to the audiobook AND read the ebook. This guy has so much audacity, but not so much that he annoys me. (I'm look at you, Gary V.) No, Bob Goff has the kind of audacity that is contagious. The kind that makes you want to run after the biggest ambitions that you've had, make them happen, and reach for the stars...or further. Not in an unrealistic way. Actually, he does a fabulous job of laying out the realities of going after your ambitions. The failures. The setbacks. The climbing toward the big ones that seem outright impossible but layering some of the smaller ambitions out like stairs to climb up so that the big ambitions come within reach. I have read a lot of book about dreaming big, visions boards, goal setting.....and I have enjoyed many of them. But this one just seems real. It seems so realistic and so relatable...even though he is an ex-lawyer who seems to have done just about everything there is to do. Still relatable. That speaks to just how real this guy comes across. Just how conversationally he talks and writes. I have already started taking action on some of the many highlightable portions of this book. In fact, it's made me rethink so many of my ideas and ambitions that my head is bursting...but in fact, so is my heart. Can you tell how much I loved this book? No, okay.... Just kidding, I'm sure you can. The thing is, I've read other Bob Goff books and just felt kind of meh about them. So much so that I almost didn't read this one. But I'm so glad that I did. And I have a sneaking suspicion that I will go back to it over and over again.

This one's a keeper. Thanks, Bob!!

I've read all of Bob's books prior to this one, so you're reading a review from someone who is a Bob Goff fan. That being said, this one is my second favorite of his books. But that doesn't mean it's not good -- it's really good! The reason why I say it's my second favorite is because "Love Does" is my first favorite and opened me up to Bob's down-to-earth, simple but impactful style of communicating things that I know but have forgotten, and he gives them back to me in new and fresh ways that I needed. It's not that he says anything completely new, but yet he does - because his perspective is simple, and he's got a ton of stories to back up what he's trying to say, and his stories are by far the best stories I've ever heard, hands down. So here's the thing about "Dream Big:" Are there stories? YES. Is it typical Bob Goff hilarious-yet-touching-and-I-never-thought-of-it-that-way-before stuff? YES. Will you like it? YES. Because even though it sounds like it's the same, I don't think it is. I think it's better. I only rate "Love Does" as better because it was the first one, and it changed me. But "Dream Big" has changed me, too. I'm a writer who thinks she sucks as a writer, but I can't stop writing and I can't stop wanting to write. So the release of "Dream Big" is timely for me. I needed this book. I needed Bob's perspective. But even if you aren't like me, you'll still get something out of this. The stories are good, his words will hit your heart when you least expect it, and you'll laugh out loud and cry out loud, and when you get to the end of the book you'll want to call him on his cell phone (which he provides the number in the back of his books) and tell him so. Which I plan on doing. Thanks, Bob. And thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this one and provide an honest review in exchange for an advanced readers copy.

A new way to view your life's ambitions/dreams

The first Bob Goff book I read was "Everybody, Always: Becoming Love in a World Full of Setbacks and Difficult People." He is such a great storyteller. I became an instant fan just based on his approaches to life and to the ways he interacts with people. I requested "Dream Big" to see if he had something new to say about how to reach goals, follow dreams we have for ourselves, etc. I have been fearing that I don't have ambitions or dreams for myself any more. Covid-19, our isolation from each other, coupled with my chronic illnesses that seem to flare more than usual, I lost focus on what I used to want for my life. I'm turning 50 in January, so I have started a backward journey in my memories. Goff reminds me that my ambitions are not necessarily based on what I have done (public affairs, teaching) or what I went to school to study. My life's experiences alone may have equipped me more than the work and study I've done. I shouldn't mistake others' ambitions for what I should be doing with my life either; it's not a comparison game. I need to do some soul-searching, too, he said, and understand why the dreams I had for myself took a backseat. What ended my motivation to work toward them? And I found agreement with him in that I want my ambitions to positively impact the people, community, and the world. Even if it's anonymously! He's opened my mind to the small and big ways I can move forward now. I love that part of going for our ambitions is: help someone else achieve theirs. Goff is about "availability" and being ready for opportunities in life. I laughed when he said he put his cell number in this book, too. (I am tempted to call and ask about the "two boys" he talked about from one of the miracles he mentions. I remember the one boy's lunch was used by Jesus, but where's the other boy?) I think this book would be excellent as a graduation gift. I also think this would make a lovely birthday gift to encourage and inspire the person's "new year." Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for this copy of Dream Big by Bob Goff in exchange for an honest review,

Dream Big with tangible small steps

This work felt so applicable and so beneficial as an adult in my twenties. In Dream Big, Bob Goff highlights how important it is to be specific and honest about what my dreams are and how those dreams are often limited by barriers I have set or created. I find myself in seasons of feeling stuck or uninspired particularly now, in the midst of a global pandemic, and this work reminds me to really explore and identity my ambitions both in the short and long term. Dream Big provides thoughtful questions and examples of how my life can be positively altered by consciously taking small tangible steps now to be able to live a life that is living into my calling from Christ. Bob Goff implores me to be honest, vulnerable, and willing to fail.. I received an advanced reader copy of this work to provide my honest feedback.
