Cuffs fray even when washed gently in the sink

I hadn't bought Dockers slacks in a long time, but bought them again recently at Macy's. And I had the same problem I've had in the past: The first time I washed them, the cuffs started to fray. And I only wash them very gently in the sink. And I hang them to dry. My past experience is that each time I wash them, no matter how gently I wash them, the cuffs fray more. Next time, I will try another brand and I will hope not to have this problem. Also, they seem a bit heavier than in the past. I think I prefer them a bit lighter, but perhaps it's just my imagination that they feel heavier, although when I mentioned this to a Macy's employee, he said that yes, they are making them heavier.

Almost

The pants were fine but the color of the pants at Macys.com (very bright white) was very off from what I received (beige). That very white color (which I wanted for summertime) was shown for both the regular and the tall sizes. Other than that, I can't' complain, other than to say that I wish that Dockers would start making 100% cotton pants again. Plastic fibers in clothing end up in rivers and streams, last "forever," and end up in human tissues.
