Great book! 9.8/10 (Review is for school project)
Divergent by Veronica Roth is an AMAZING young adult dystopian book. It has many plot twists and didn’t fail to keep me entertained page after page. After being only entertained by movies and YouTube videos, because of this book I will be reading more! (Spoiler Warning for rest of review) A brief summary: The book is set in a future Chicago where society is divided into the five factions: Abnegation who value selflessness and run the government, There also is Amity who values peace and grows food for the city, Then Candor values honesty and runs the Judicial system, The Dauntless who value bravery protect the city, and lastly the Erudite who value intelligence learn and grow for more knowledge. Each faction has a vital role, and citizens must choose their faction at age 16 via a choosing ceremony. The story follows Beatrice also known as "Tris". Tris struggles with her identity while in Abnegation and decides to leave her family's faction of Abnegation to join Dauntless during the choosing ceremony. During the initiation process to Dauntless, Tris discovers she is "Divergent" this means she does not fit into any faction and shares trait from multiple of them. This is a very dangerous trait in this society as she doesn’t think the same as others. Later in the book she navigates the brutal training, from fighting to paint ball to fear simulations and even weapons training. Along the way she forms relationships with her new friends like “Al, Will and Christina”. But most notably with her instructor, Tobias, also known as “Four" Eaton, someone who is also Divergent. Near the end Tris uncovers a conspiracy led by Erudite and its head Jeanine to overthrow the government. Her plan involved brainwashing Dauntless and using them to kill Abnegation and take over the other factions. As tensions rise between factions Tris grapples with the implications of being Divergent and everything else that is going on. The novel explores themes of choice, identity, and the consequences of a fixed social structure which when combined makes a thrilling climax where Tris must fight for her beliefs and the safety of those she holds dearly. This book gave me many great reactions to the book. When I found out that many of the different Dauntless leaders actually had fears of their own, and that being Dauntless didn’t mean to be fearless but rather to deal with fear easily. This explained to me why Tris ended up getting to the top of the leader boards. Another great moment was when I found out that both Natalie and Four were divergent. This was surprising because at the start of the book Natalie was very selfless and seemed to lack any other qualities, but later in the book we find out that Natalie isn’t as selfless as they say, and she actually acted more outside of the boundaries of the factions. And the same is true for Four. You should read "Divergent" because it presents a gripping story filled with action, suspense, and thought-provoking themes about identity and choice within the world. The dystopian world challenges readers to consider the consequences of firm societal divisions and conformity within divisions and with peace. Tris s journey of bravery, along with her newfound relationships, makes for a compelling and entertaining narrative. With its strong protagonist and engaging plot twists, "Divergent" is not only entertaining but also brings up meaningful discussions about freedom and individuality. So I would highly recommend this book to any teenager or adult, if you want an overall great read. -Logan P

Very impactful book!
“Divergent” by Veronica Roth is a very well-written book that describes a young girl named Beatrice’s life trying to navigate her way through a dystopian society where once people turn 16 they have to choose a faction to join after taking a placement test. There’s Abnegation, who is quiet and kind, Amity, who is easygoing and warm, Candor, who is trustworthy and confident, Dauntless, who is strong and bold, and Erudite, who is intelligent and insightful. During Beatrice’s placement test, she received three factions she could be placed in, instead of the usual one. She got Abnegation, Erudite, and Dauntless, but during the ceremony she ended up choosing Dauntless. She had to go through a series of trials to be able to join the faction in order to avoid being factionless, which is the equivalent of a homeless person in today’s times. Eventually, after jumping onto a moving train, leaping from rooftops, and being the first to fall down a pitch-black hole, she earns her spot as a true Dauntless and changes her name to “Tris”. After enjoying her time in Dauntless and meeting a man named Tobias, something disastrous happens; the Erudite attack Abnegation with the help of Dauntless leaders. They get people who they brainwashed using mind control and hand them loaded guns, forcing them to behave like soldiers and shoot the innocent members of Abnegation, murdering Beatrice’s parents. Beatrice feels immense amounts of guilt from this, even though it wasn’t her fault, and makes it her goal to avenge her parents and save the factions.

I highly recommend Divergent
Divergent is an exceptionally written book by the author Veronica Roth. I highly recommend reading Divergent because of the deep themes of identity and choice and the book's similarities to Hunger Games. Divergent protagonist Beatrice Prior lives in a dystopian future where society groups people into factions. There are five factions that prioritize different qualities in a person based on personality, virtue, and strength. Erudite are intellectual, Dauntless are brave, Candor are honest, and Amity are peaceful. The protagonist Beatrice belongs to the final faction, Abnegation, whose hallmark is selflessness. The story follows Beatrice and her struggle with choices and her identity. Divergent is about knowing who you are and choosing who you want to be. Most of the charters are young adults that are trying to find their identities in life. Divergent raises the question of how we choose our identity, which is explored in the book by examining how people select which faction they want to associate with. Divergent has many similarities to Suzanne Collins's book Hunger Games. Both books follow a female lead living in a dystopian future where people are grouped by the government. Readers who enjoyed the Hunger Games would definitely enjoy Divergent. Overall the book was filled with thrilling action and Beatrice captivates readers with her choices throughout the story.

A must read!
The book Divergent is a dystopian novel and is the number 1 New York Times bestselling book of the series. This book has many different kinds of action and also some romance between the two main focused characters in the book. This dystopian novel is compared to other dystopian novels, including Maze Runner and Hunger Games. Some people even say that it’s better than others. The author Veronica Roth has put lots of detail into this book, making it feel like the reader is there in person with these characters. After reading this book, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes an action-filled story and includes a love story throughout the book. This book is also something someone should buy if they want to hear more about this book because it’s a whole series. You can relate to these characters and make many connections because they do experience real-life problems, they may be more exaggerated, but it happens. This book gives you a sense of excitement and puts you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

This book was amazing but a couple of sad things happened and I almost cried. This book is great for people who like action books and romance. If you like hunger games and maze runner you will most likely like this book.
