The first book in Lauren Oliver's New York Times bestselling trilogy about forbidden love, revolution, and the power to choose. In an alternate United States, love has been declared a dangerous disease, and the government forces everyone who reaches eighteen to have a procedure called the Cure. Living with her aunt, uncle, and cousins in Portland, Maine, Lena Haloway is very much looking forward to being cured and living a safe, predictable life. She watched love destroy her mother and isn't about to make the same mistake. But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena meets enigmatic Alex, a boy from the Wilds who lives under the government's radar. What will happen if they do the unthinkable and fall in love.

Love, the deadliest of all deadly things

This review is for the audiobook. I don't know if I hate the FMC or love her, and IDK if I kind of want to hate her b\c of the narrator. The narrator did a PHENOMENAL job! She encapsulates all of the characters and brings a life to this book that it wouldn't normally have. What grated on my nerves is NOTHING that she can control and that is the natural pitch and whine of her voice. The natural cadence gave the FMC a whiney edge that made me want to DNF; BUT I am so glad I didn't. This book is like if The Giver and Hunger Games had a baby! A Pseudo dystopian story about a time where Love is a disease and is curable, and we follow our FMC on the journey from excited to be cured and join a "regular" "normal" society, to falling deeply in love, unearthing mind blowing secrets and opening her mind to a world she never had the courage to even imagine.
